We’re excited to welcome Evan Maxwell to the Rise Up family.

Evan brings a unique combination of experience, leadership, and faith to our team. As a former Division I athlete at Kansas and Liberty, a professional player who competed in 10 countries, and a trainer with years of experience developing athletes, he understands what it takes to grow at the highest levels of the game.

More importantly, Evan is a husband, father of three, and a follower of Christ who is passionate about helping young people grow both on and off the court.

His heart for ministry, commitment to player development, and passion for building complete athletes make him a great fit for what God is doing through Rise Up.

Evan will be helping lead basketball training, strength and conditioning, and athlete development as we continue investing in the next generation.

Join us in welcoming Evan and his family to the Rise Up community.

Today, Traci and I were walking into one of her pre-op appointments when we both looked down and realized we were wearing Rise Up shirts.

We looked at each other and smiled. Life has been moving a million miles an hour lately, and for a moment it made us stop and reflect on everything God has done.

Yesterday marked one year since we held our very first Rise Up camp at Pleasant Grove. Since that day, thousands of kids have walked through the doors, hundreds have given their lives to Jesus, and we’ve had the privilege of watching God move in ways we never could have imagined. Standing there together, it was a reminder of how faithful He has been.

When we moved here from Florida in faith, we could have never imagined the journey ahead.

I certainly never imagined that just eight months ago we would be hearing the words Stage 4 colorectal cancer. We never imagined being told that the cancer had spread to Traci’s reproductive system, or hearing a prognosis that gave her only a 13% chance of surviving the next three years.

At the time it felt impossible.
All we knew was that we had to trust God and keep taking the next step.

Todaywe’re hopeful that we’re nearing the end of this cancer journey.

In just two and a half weeks, Traci will undergo surgery to remove part of her colon along with what appears to be the remaining cancer. This surgery could leave her with no evidence of disease.

We know that doesn’t necessarily mean the journey is over, but it’s a milestone we once weren’t sure we’d ever reach.

Through all of this, Traci has been one of the strongest people I’ve ever known. She endured full FOLFIRINOX chemotherapy, The most aggressive treatment regimens available, and she did it with a strength and determination that still amazes me every day.

Even when her entire body was exhausted and beaten down, she kept showing up. She continued serving at church, loving people, investing in kids, and encouraging others. If you met her in a room, you would never know what she was carrying unless you knew her story deeply.

We don’t pretend to understand every part of this journey, but we know God has been faithful. What we’re seeing today is not the outcome most people would expect from a Stage 4 diagnosis. More than once we’ve heard doctors use words that point to just how unusual her journey has been. One Dr. said “dare I say miraculous”

Through every high and low, God has continued to remind us that He is in control.

As we prepare for this surgery, we’re thankful for every prayer, every message, every meal, every hug, and every person who has walked alongside our family during this season.

We’re also incredibly grateful that God entrusted us with Rise Up. In the middle of the hardest seasons of our lives, we’ve had the privilege of watching Him change lives, draw young people to Himself, and build something that is so much bigger than us.

We believe God is still writing this story, and our prayer is simple that His name would be glorified through every part of it.

For now, we’re just taking a moment to thank Him for what He’s doing and for how far He’s brought us.

The road isn’t finished yet, but today we’re choosing gratitude.

Huge thanks to Cintas and Joey Ehritz for delivering Rise Up Hoops some new much needed basketballs.

Thankful to everyone that’s helped this ministry serve the youth in the Lowcountry.

If you’re interested in partnering with us, we desperately need to repair our basketball flooring, we need a ball cage to keep the basketballs secure and a van to transport Rise Up kids.

If you can help us in any of those areas or you’d like sponsor monthly you can simply click the link below.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped Rise Up flourish.

This year at Rise Up Hoops we’ve seen God move through this ministry in a mighty way. Over 96 kids have given their lives to Jesus in the ministries first year, and thousands have walked through our doors to be loved, encouraged, fed, and served.

But nights like this will always be my favorite.

This past Wednesday, we had the privilege of baptizing six students who have made the decision to follow Christ. Watching them publicly profess their faith and take that next step in their walk with Jesus is what it’s all about.

I’m incredibly thankful for every volunteer, and for Franky Hernandez and Frontline Barber Lounge who gave free haircuts, every person who helped serve meals, and everyone who invests their time into these kids. Those things matter more than you’ll ever know.

At its core, Rise Up has never been just about basketball, events, or numbers. It’s about walking through life with these young people, pointing them to Jesus, and watching God transform their lives.

Wednesday night was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. All glory to God.

Rise Up Hoops Memorial Day was such an incredible day. Hundreds of kids that got to hoop, fall in love with the game, get a meal, have their hair cut and be led by former college players, coaches and staff.

But above all they heard the gospel, they became apart of a family that is changing the lives of Low Country kids. A multitude of kids gave their lives to Christ that day.

I feel incredibly blessed God would see fit to use the game I love to serve our community and make His name famous.

If you’re interested in partnering with us or volunteering we’d love to talk to you. 843-743-9580

Huge shout out to Eric Cota for the video and all the barbers, coaches and volunteers that made this day a success.

Rise Up Hoops camp today was truly phenomenal. To date, this was our biggest camp yet, with 140+ kids packed into the gym, and to run a basketball camp of that size smoothly is no small feat. We’re incredibly grateful because God’s hand was all over today from start to finish.

Kids competed, got better, built relationships, and most importantly, lives were impacted. We had a large number of young people make decisions to give their lives to Christ, and moments like that remind us why we do this in the first place.

We are so thankful for every single person who came out to serve alongside these Lowcountry youth. Thank you to all the coaches, volunteers, FCA, the incredible people working in the kitchen, and the barbers who gave their time and energy to love on these kids. We truly could not have done it without you.

So many lives are being changed, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to provide these young people with something positive, uplifting, and safe. We’re continuing to pray and work toward partnering with the Town of Summerville along with Berkeley and Dorchester County to keep reaching youth throughout the Lowcountry in an even greater way. If you have contacts with the city or county please contact me.

Today was bigger than basketball. It was community. It was purpose. It was ministry. And above all, all glory goes to God.

We’re honestly overwhelmed with gratitude watching what Rise Up Hoops has grown into. What started as a vision God gave us has turned into something far bigger than we ever imagined.

Every single week, hundreds of kids walk through the doors of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church - The Grove

And in light of the recent violence happening around Summerville and throughout the Lowcountry, we’re realizing more than ever just how badly this generation needs strong men of God willing to stand in the gap.

Some of these young teens come from difficult situations. Some are carrying things most couldn’t imagine or simply don’t have consistent male role models speaking life into them.

That’s where you come in.

If you love basketball, incredible. If not, that’s okay too. We need men willing to mentor, encourage, pray, build relationships, and simply show up consistently.

You do not have to be perfect.
You just have to be available.

Wednesday Nights
6 PM – 8 PM

If you’re interested in helping mentor and invest into the next generation, DM me or shoot me a text.

This morning is heavy. As most of you have heard, there was a shooting at Cane Bay. One of my boys basketball players and a kid heavily involved with Rise Up Hoops had his brother shot five times.

Moments like this remind us why reaching our youth matters so much.

A lot of these kids are carrying pain, trauma, anger, pressure, and things most people never see. Most of the kids we reach would never step into a traditional youth group setting, and many of them don’t know Jesus. That’s why the opportunity for real life change is so huge.

God has opened a door through basketball. Kids come to play ball, get fed, build relationships, and hear about Jesus. And we’ve seen it firsthand lives changed, kids coming to Christ, attitudes changing, and young people starting to head down a different path.

This past Wednesday we had over 80 Lowcountry kids in the gym. Our mission has never been just basketball. It’s about creating a safe place where kids can be encouraged, mentored, loved, challenged, and shown there is a better way forward.

In moments like this, it’s easy for social media to become filled with jokes, division, anger, and insensitive comments, but these are real people, real families, and real lives being affected. Our community doesn’t need more hate right now. It needs compassion, prayer, guidance, and people willing to stand in the gap for the next generation.

Please pray for the victims, their families, and the entire Cane Bay community this morning. Rise Up will continue doing everything we can to love, mentor, feed, encourage, and point these young people toward Jesus and hope.

Excited to announce this fall Rise Up will partner with as we launch the Rise Up x JrNBA League this fall.

Basketball played and taught the way it should be.

This co-ed league for ages 6–14 is designed for both beginners and experienced players who want to grow their game in a positive, competitive, and encouraging environment. Our goal is bigger than just wins and losses. We want kids learning the game the right way while building confidence, teamwork, discipline, and a real love for basketball.

Each team will represent an NBA team and players will receive NBA-style jerseys, making this an experience kids will truly remember.

We’re incredibly excited for what this partnership means for the future of basketball in our community and for the opportunity to continue pouring into the next generation on and off the court. Registration starts June 15th

Spots will fill up quickly.
