Our Summer Season has ended and we have had a great time our first season participating! We hope that our next season brings more interest to be able to compete with the rest of the teams.
SUMMER IS OVER - MILLERSVILLE WINS
RICHMOND CLAIMS SECOND
THIRD GOES TO DAVISON
Frank Montgomery and his Australian Shepherd Jagger never scored below 47 points over this five-week of K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch League play, to lead a strong, deep Millersville, Maryland Club to the 2019 Summer Season Championship.
Outpacing 124 other Clubs from around the world, Millersville started strong and never trailed after Week 3 thanks to Frank & Jagger and 14 other club-mates who scored high in the top 40% of the 2,031 active teams this season.
With just 10 Club members, tiny-but-mighty Richmond, Virginia made a final jump to finish 2nd again this season, thanks to an incredible record-setting performance by Derek Martin & Bravo who carded four 55-point weekly scores (their “mulligan” was a lowly 53) to finish 1st in the Individual Team Standings. Wow.
Last on the virtual podium, is perennial powerhouse Davison, Michigan with another stellar season to finish in 3rd place this summer as a Club, paced by Captain Scott Jones & his border collie Rebel who also finished 3rd in the overall Team Standings.
This season there were 1,427 different handlers, some running multiple dogs, making 2,031 total Teams on 124 Clubs from 9 different countries: Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, England, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, and the USA. This season, 15 Clubs played as Squads because they had less than 8 people on their rosters.
Congratulations to Buenos Aires KiroDisc, Argentina who missed week 1 and climbed steadily all season to culminate in an impressive 4th Place finish, just off the podium. Bravo!
Kansas City led the League in week 2 but only slipped a little to finish in 5th just ahead of #6 Winnipeg St. James, the top Canadian Club this season. Eh!
Mexico City, hovered in the top 10 all season and climbed up to 7th at the end, barely slipping by both Alfa Canis Zagreb, Croatia, the top European Team in 8th, and Austin, Texas, who hung on to take 9th.
Montreal, Canada finished with a jump in to the Top 10, which comprised clubs from five different countries, a great testament to this amazing international league.
Great job to all the Clubs who finished in the top 40. One thing they all had in common was great attendance by their members – dedication pays off! This season 20+ brand new Clubs joined the League – several had great starts.

Once the mulligan was figured in (dropping the lowest of five weekly scores), 93 total points (including handicap) were required to score in the top 40% of all Teams and earn the Canis Magnus (Top Dog) patch. This equated to a weekly average of 23.25 for an Expert, 18.5 for a Master, and 13.5 total points for a Handler Team.
MOVING ON UP
31 Master and Handler Teams scored at 32 or more points at least twice this season and are promoted to Expert in the next season they play. 104 more Handler Teams scored 21 or more points at least twice this season and earned a promotion to Master. This is the largest promotion class ever. Give yourselves a pat on the back – and pet your dog.
GET READY FOR FALL
With Summer season over, League will take a short break till the Fall Season begins with Week 1 starting on Saturday, August 10. Club Captains are already signing up to play so let your know you’re in for Fall.
And, don’t forget the Worldwide K9 Frisbee Toss & Fetch Championship on October 12 to be held at 23 Regional locations around the world. To qualify, you must play in at least one season in the year prior to the Championship. If you’ve not played, Fall Season is your last chance to qualify for this first ever, one-day worldwide championship.
GET IN THE GAME!
If there’s no Club near you, recruit 7 other people, find a field and start your Toss & Fetch Club anywhere in the world. It’s easy, it’s fun, it’s something you know you want to do. Just do it!
Finally, thanks to all the Captains who made this huge season run smooth, helped each other out in the Captain’s Group, and who put in the time and effort to make their local Clubs a great weekly gathering of fun-loving dog frisbee people. We salute you.
