Christopher Newport Varsity Sailing Team Sail Fast, GO CAPTAINS! Women's and Coed teams travel as far north as Ontario and as far south as Florida.

-The Varsity Sailing Team competes in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA), one of the most competitive sailing conferences in the United States. There are many beautiful venues the team travels to that offer fantastic racing but few can top the beauty and excitement of CNU's home waters of the Southern Chesapeake Bay.

Introducing THE VAULT: every Thursday, one frame out of the CNU Sailing archive. Newspaper clippings, yearbook scans, disposable cameras, and somebody's phone in a dry bag. Fleets, regattas, capsizes, and a genuinely heroic amount of questionable foul weather gear.
Good timing, too. All Hands on Deck, our Season Kickoff, is this weekend, and a lot of the people in these photos are about to be standing on our dock again. 🧭

To round out our August birthdays — Happy Birthday to Spike Douglass! 🎂
Zachary on the paperwork, Spike to everyone who's ever met him. He joined a Zoom meeting long enough to say hi, sign off, and somehow ended up leading our entire development effort. That's not an accident, that's just what happens when someone says yes to everything and actually means it.
Class of 2021 and easily the most all-in guy in the room. Whatever the ask is, Spike's answer is "yeah, let's go." This program runs on that kind of energy.
Take the day off from saying yes to things. Except the rum, we know about the friend with the good rum. 😉
