Sophie Burford
Salve Regina University

Sophie is the daughter of Crystal and Denver Atwood and Jeff and Valorie Burford. Sophie has been on the Lady Cougars Golf Team for two years. Sophie is a member of the Girls Who code club and will be graduating with high honors. Sophie has also been a member of the Newnan High School Cross Country Team for 3 years and played Lacrosse at NHS for 1 year.
Sophie’s favorite golf team memory is getting to scramble with Coach Johns, Kaitlyn, and Kaitlyn’s mom.

Her advice to the future Lady Cougars “Golf balls don’t float!”

Coach Johns says “aka SINK’EM Soph - The only person who says "I don't dislike anyone" when I tell her to picture someone she doesn't like on the ball and hit it as hard as she can!”

Jackson Hale
Kennesaw State University
-It isn’t over till it’s over.

Jackson Hale is the son of Heather Shaw & Lane Hale. Jackson has played golf for Newnan for two years. He plans to attend Kennesaw State University after graduation.

Jackson’s favorite golf team memory is playing at the Athens tournament. The advice Jackson would give to future Cougars is “Don’t give up!”

From Coach Barden: You won’t ever see much emotion out of Jackson until you see him hit a bad shot on the golf course. That is because he is an extreme competitor, and I know he will be successful in whatever he chooses to do moving forward.

Riley Hill

Riley Hill is the daughter of Nick and Jan Hill. Riley's first season on the golf team is this year! She has been busy over the past four years playing volleyball and working hard academically. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club.

Riley’s favorite memory from being on the golf team is when she broke her driver. Staying positive is the best advice she can offer future Newnan Cougars. Riley will be attending Georgia College in the fall. We wish her all the best!!

From Coach Johns: First person I’ve ever seen to make the driver head go further than the ball...on the first swing of the first day of tryouts! I knew she was going to be a long hitter once she knew how to hit the ball and not the ground. Welcome to the team.

McCoy Woodham

-Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel.

McCoy Woodham, son of Jennifer and Dan Woodham, has been on the golf team for three years. The area tournament of his sophomore year is among his favorite golf memories. McCoy’s advice to the future Newnan golf team members is to chip and putt a lot! Philippians 1:27 is his favorite Bible verse. While at Newnan, McCoy has been a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Key Club, and served as President of Newnan Ambassadors. He ran cross country his freshman and sophomore year and played baseball his freshman year. Ranked in the top ten of his class, McCoy will be graduating with High Honors and will attend Auburn University in the fall.

From Coach Barden: McCoy and his classmates will go down as the best sweet tea Tuesday crew in Newnan History. Every week when they arrived with sweet tea and candy, we always had a Starburst challenge to see who could pull two pinks. I’m very excited to see what the future holds for McCoy.
