I ride and fully support these rules! And kids (under 17) should be riding non-e, we did!!

🚲Electric bicycles (E-Bikes) in South Carolina must have two or three wheels, fully operable pedals, an electronic motor no more than 750 watts (or one horsepower), and a top motor-powered speed under 20 mph.

🪪You do not need a driver’s license, registration, or insurance for a legal E-Bike.

🛑Riders must follow and adhere to all rules of the road which include stopping at stop signs and obeying traffic signals.

⚠️Bikes exceeding these limits are treated differently under state law.

🏍️Electric dirt bikes (E-Motos) are not e-bikes. They are motor vehicles that must be properly insured and registered through the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles before a properly licensed driver can legally operate them on public roads.

I am starting to think I need to reopen a shop in Newberry as I’m getting more and more calls. More and still more. Dilemma: there is not enough $ in bikes to keep the doors open, but I do want to help folks because I have been fighting for trails, bike lanes, education and helping people get healthier and having more fun in life. What’s a bike lady to do?

🚨 Help Us Save the Harbison MTB Challenge! 🚨

We’re holding out as long as we possibly can before we’re forced to make the difficult decision to cancel the Harbison MTB Challenge.

We never want to cancel a race. We love putting on these events, bringing people together, and showcasing great trails. Unfortunately, there are significant costs involved in putting on a bike race, and we simply can’t afford to take a substantial loss and put the future of our company at risk.

We’ve gone back through the numbers, cut costs wherever we possibly can, and we’ve figured out that we need just 35 more racers — 60 total — to break even.

That’s it. 35 more riders.

If you’ve never been to Harbison State Forest, you’re really missing out. We know Columbia, South Carolina might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about incredible mountain biking, but Harbison will absolutely prove you wrong. The trails are fantastic, the setting is beautiful, and it’s a race we really want to see happen.

So, if you’ve been on the fence about joining us, now is the time to jump in. Bring a friend, bring your riding buddies, and come experience what Harbison has to offer.

Help us get to 60 racers and keep the Harbison MTB Challenge on the calendar! 🚵‍♂️💨

So this is kinda crazy folks, BUT since ‘closing’ Bike Baby, I’m getting more followers and inquiries than ever. Happened when I closed the Main St shop, too. I guess we don’t know what we have til it’s gone. I am selecting repairs, but encouraging folks to go to either Outspokin' Bicycles or Cola Town Bike Collective, which I personally patronize and trust. That being said, I do still have new bikes in inventory, which are priced below my cost…just something to think about.
