Woolf PAC

Woolf PAC A planning committee came together to craft a mission, create a giving strategy, secure a web platform, and decide on a name for ourselves. Woolf PAC was born.

We are a national collective of women committed to pledging $25/month each in support of progressive non-profit organizations--large and small--at risk in our current hostile political environment. Our Mission:

We are a national collective of women committed to pledging $25/month each in support of progressive non-profit organizations--large and small--at risk in our current hostile political en

vironment. Our Story:

On November 9, 2016, many of the 3000+ members of the Facebook Group What Would Virginia Woolf Do?, founded by Nina Lorez Collins, gathered online in shock and despair in the wake of the results of the presidential election. Outrage and a desire to act soon followed, and Jenny Douglas posted an idea: what would it be like, as a collective, to regularly direct funds to non-profits under siege? Membership is now open to any woman across the country with $25 a month to spare, together with an urgent desire to build a formidable bloc dedicated to protecting our at-risk American ideals. Join us in making a difference. How We Work:

Woolf PAC grants will be made quarterly—and each quarter will serve a pressing theme (Communities at Risk, Women’s Rights & Reproductive Freedom, Freedom of the Press and Protection of the Environment, to name a few). Our kick-off theme will be Communities at Risk. For the first two months of each quarterly cycle, all members will be free to nominate worthy non-profits that serve our categories. Voting will take place during the third month (with all being asked to include one small, local, grassroots non-profit among their top picks). The three organizations to receive the most votes at the end of each quarter will each receive a grant from Woolf PAC. Woolf PAC members will be notified by email of the "winners" shortly after each vote tally is in. Joining is easy. Click on the link at the left-side column of this page to register and submit your credit card information to our secure site. Your $25 donation will occur each month, and you're free to be as actively engaged (or not) with Woolf PAC as you wish. All contributions are fully tax-deductible and members are free to leave the group at any time. Game on! (Please note: though our commitment is fierce, Woolf PAC is *not* a registered Political Action Coalition, nor do we formally function as one.)

Fantastic Woolf PAC members:

The Giving Circles Fund, Woolf Pac's web platform, surprised us last week with the announcement that it would be shutting down operations--and this week, this is now so.

I'm sad for this unexpected turn, and also fantastically proud for what the 105 members of our Woolfer "giving circle" were able to accomplish since we launched in January 2017: to wit, grants totaling $41,724.92 to a wide range of progressive not-for-profits at risk in our current political landscape.

Within the next week, the $7052.02 now in the Woolf Pac kitty will be directed in total to The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights - New York, the "winner" of our most recent cycle.

GCF will no longer be charging our credit cards, needless to say, and there's nothing members need to do.

Special thanks to the small group of stellar women who were in the Woolf Pac trenches with me from the start: Stephanie Gangi, Diana Kane English, RuthAnne Gersten, Meret Lenzlinger, Janna Schnur Turoff, Resa Matthews and Beth Lee Segal. (Can we please keep meeting for "planning meetings" over martinis at Balthazar even though there's nothing left to plan?)

And, please: may we continue to harness the power of our wondrous collective to do some good in this hurting world.

With love and thanks.

We are excited to announce that the winner of our last donation cycle is The Young Center! This is an incredible organization dedicated to protecting the rights of unaccompanied immigrant children.

Hi Everyone:)

The Woolfer (Nina/Sidney/Tulani/Kara etc) is "taking over" the management of Woolf PAC, although the original team (Jenny et al) will continue to be very involved:) Nominations for the next cycle start Friday, October 4, and we're here announcing that the next theme is ELIMINATING SEXUAL VIOLENCE. We're in the final days of PROTECT IMMIGRANT FAMILIES and only 15% of us have voted so far, so please log-in and vote! Also, let's try harder to spread the word about this Giving Circle -- it's really quite amazing and we only have a little over 100 women here.

October 4th is the deadline to vote for your favorite not-for-profit among the four nominated this quarter in service of our current focus, PROTECT IMMIGRANT FAMILIES.

Starting this quarter, we’ll be switching to a single grantee each quarter (from our past practice of dividing our quarterly kitty among three recipients), which means RAICES, Make the Road New York, The Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project and The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights - New York each have a chance to receive a check for over 6K from us.

Since Woolf PAC’s inception a year and a half ago, we’ve granted $34,673 to deserving 501(c)3s under siege in our current political landscape. Our 105 members donate $25/month, and we're all made stronger for banding together. If you're not already a member, we'd love to have you: to register, and to vote, please visit the link in the comments.

Attention, Woolf Pac women! Two days remain to nominate your favorite 501(c)3 that works to protect immigrant families. RAICES, The Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project, and Make the Road New York have already been nominated; add your pick, and it *could* end up receiving a grant from us in excess of $6K. (You'll have to sign in on the link below to nominate.)

Woolf PAC update! Our last quarter (focusing on Criminal Justice Reform) recently closed, and grants in the amount of $2458 are being sent out this week to the three non-profits who received the most votes from our 107 members: Rights4Girls (nominated by Beth A. Maliner), Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute (nominated by RuthAnne Gersten) and Equal Justice Initiative (nominated by Barbara Kass).

That's a total of $7374, women, in one quarter alone! Fighting for good in this country can feel like an uphill climb these days--and we are making a difference.

Our new quarter's focus is Protect Immigrant Families, and for the next six weeks, members have the chance to nominate excellent non-profits that do just that. Nominations close on September 3, followed by month-long voting period. (Oh! And we've made the recent decision to simplify things, and amplify our individual grants, by giving to just *one* grantee each quarter moving forward.)

Woolf PAC's current cycle--in which we're working to support CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM--will draw to a close on July 1st, and members have nominated some important non-profits for grant consideration.

Our nominees:? Rights4Girls (suggested by Beth A. Maliner); The Bronx Freedom Fund (put forth by Felicia Park-Rogers); Vera Institute of Justice (with thanks to Theresa Trzaskoma); The Marshall Project (suggested by Cherie Henderson); Common Justice (nominated by Meret Lenzlinger); Edwins Leadership & Restaurant Institute (suggested by RuthAnne Gersten); The Last Mile (nominated by Tamara Lyons); and the Equal Justice Initiative (nominated by Barbara Kass). Members wishing to cast their votes should do so by the July 1st deadline. (The top three "winners" will equally share in the $$ generated from this quarter's kitty.)

Woolf PAC gave over $27,000 in grants last year by dint of our 100 members pledging $25/month in this collective giving effort. New members are welcome at any time (and existing members are free to drop out at any time).

Our next cycle begins on July 2nd. And our new theme is the one it has to be: PROTECT IMMIGRANT CHILDREN.
