What a proud and memorable day for the Sikh Society of Harrisburg and Sikh Sangat of PA By the blessings of Waheguru and in the presence of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, our community held its first annual Sikh Day Parade on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, celebrating the Prakash Purab of Guru Granth Sahib Ji, at City Island in Harrisburg. Sangat joined us from Reading, Blue Mountain, Philadelphia, Upper Darby, New Jersey, Washington, and New York for a beautiful celebration of faith, unity, Sewa, and community spirit. We were honored by the presence of Senator Patty Kim and Congressman Scott Perry, along with Representative Justin Fleming, Representative Nate Davidson, Commissioner Matthew Franchak, Commissioner Justin Douglas, Commissioner Jean Foschi, Commissioner Dr. Ryan Argot, Council Member Robert Lawson, and Behzad Zendiah, Interfaith Chairman of Greater Harrisburg — who joined in celebration and support. We were also honored by renowned scholars Dr. Sukhpreet Singh Udhoke, Dr. Gurnam Singh, Dr. Gurleen Kaur, and Jasbir Kaur, who shared teachings from Sikh history and tradition. A major highlight of the parade was the grand martial arts display by the Gatka Federation USA team, whose members captivated the crowd by demonstrating traditional Gatka skills, showcasing the bravery, discipline, and rich heritage of Sikh martial arts. In addition, Dr. Deep Singh, General Secretary of Gatka Federation USA, addressed the Sangat at this mega event, highlighting the importance of preserving Sikh history, promoting physical fitness, and instilling martial values in the younger generation. Especially about the upcoming mega event in the East Coast area- DASTR PRIDE COMPETITION (organized by GGSSC) happening on October 17th in Diwan Banquet NJ. Every part of the parade was carried out according to Sikh Rehat Maryada, in the presence of Panj Piyare and Panj Nishanchi. Our main purpose in celebrating the 1st Parkaash Dihara of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji was to share the beautiful message of ੴ — One Creator — and the message of Oneness with our fellow faith communities and all the elected leaders and authorities who joined us. ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ॥ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ ਭਾਈ ਏਕੋ ਹੈ A special thank-you to our dedicated sewadars (volunteers), whose months of tireless Sewa made this parade possible — and to everyone who came out, celebrated, and shared in free Guru Ka Langar, representing the Sikh principles of equality, generosity, and selfless service for all. Together, we showed the strength of unity and the beauty of Sikh values. We look forward to making this celebration even bigger in the years ahead!
