When the Ice Center at the Promenade in Westminster, Colorado committed to putting the pizazz back into their public skate and hockey games by updating the over ice lighting, they brought in Denver based Theatre Projects to give it some wow! With new moving lights and video projection, Ashley Keen led the charge on lighting control and programming designed to make everything from casual open skate to nail-biter hockey games feel like an event.

Working with and utilizing fixtures, we brought in a modern lighting control system, new LED color changing moving light fixtures with video projection capabilities, giving the rink the flexibility to shift moods on the fly. This custom show sequence is called ‘’graphic.’’

The result? A rink that finally skates as good as it looks.

Happy 10th anniversary, Dubai Opera!

This month, we celebrate ten years since the opening of Dubai Opera, a landmark project that helped redefine what a performing arts venue could be in the Middle East.

At the heart of the 645,000-square-foot Dubai Opera is a remarkable 2,000-seat multiform theatre. Designed to embrace an extraordinary range of performances and events, the venue can transform from an opera house to a concert hall, a flat-floor banquet and event space, and more. State-of-the-art mechanized systems move the room’s side boxes, walls, ceiling panels, stage, and seating wagons, completely transforming the space in less than four hours.

And over the past decade, that flexibility has been put to extraordinary use. Dubai Opera opened its doors in August 2016 with a sold-out performance by Plácido Domingo, followed soon after by productions including Les Misérables. Since then, the stage has welcomed an incredible range of artists and productions, from The Phantom of the Opera, La Bohème, Swan Lake, and Othello to the BBC Proms and countless concerts, ballets, musicals, and cultural performances. In its first decade, Dubai Opera has hosted more than 2,500 performances and welcomed more than 1.5 million visitors.

We are proud to have played a part in bringing this extraordinary venue to life and grateful to our partners Inside AtkinsRéalis for their collaboration, creativity, and commitment throughout the project.

Groundbreaking day at Loretto Heights! 🎭🥁

Theatre Projects provided full-service planning, strategy, operations, and community engagement support to Denver Arts & Venues in bringing the historic May Bonfils Stanton Theatre back to life for southwest Denver.

Proud to work with Perkins Eastman and Threshold Acoustics on this one, and grateful to Jason Rasinowich and Jim Niesel for representing the TP team on site today.

This mid-century modern gem opened in 1963 and is getting a new life as a true cultural home for the neighborhood — construction starts this summer, opening slated for 2028.
