The United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) was established by the UN General Assembly with a mandate to advocate for and coordinate South-South and triangular cooperation on a global and UN system-wide basis. UNOSSC engages with Member States globally and regionally, as well as within the UN system to facilitate practical expressions of Southern solidarity towards the achievement of internationally agreed development goals. It works with a wide range of partners to harness emerging innovative financing mechanisms through South-South and triangular cooperation. UNOSSC also ensures that our Southern constituencies have timely access to high-quality analytical planning, and reporting on data, trends and opportunities that will propel South-South and triangular cooperation in ways that ensure success.

💧 South-South cooperation is helping bring safe water and stronger sanitation services to remote Indigenous communities in Honduras.

Supported by the , managed by UNOSSC and implemented by UNICEF Honduras with national and local partners, a climate-resilient WASH initiative in La Mosquitia is improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for vulnerable Miskito communities.

In early 2026, the project had reached 12,199 people with WASH knowledge and behaviour-change activities, while nearly 6,000 people benefited from improved hygiene services. At a school in Puerto Lempira, a new rainwater harvesting system is providing 1,133 children with reliable access to safe water.

Through knowledge exchange with partners across the Global South, the initiative is adapting proven approaches to local realities - strengthening community ownership, resilience and sustainable water management.🌎 A powerful example of how Cooperation can turn shared knowledge into lasting local solutions.

Under the Global Development Center Phase II (GSSDC II) Project – implemented by the Kunming Institute of Botany (KIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) – capacity-building sessions were held in Sayaboury, Lao PDR.

In Feb & May 2026, over 160 educators, technicians, and students were trained in Agroforestry Systems, Circular Bioeconomy, and practical applications. An art competition across 23 schools appointed Youth Ambassadors to champion sustainable agriculture at the community level.

Across the Global South, young people are finding new ways to turn ideas into opportunities and sharing what works.

In Burundi, 1,500 young people are gaining entrepreneurship and e-commerce skills through the India-UN Development Partnership Fund. The entrepreneurship approach builds on experience from other Southern contexts, including Chad and Haiti, adapting lessons to the needs and aspirations of young Burundians.

Supported by the Government of India through the , managed by UNOSSC and implemented by UNFPA with national partners, the initiative shows what cooperation can look like in practice: locally led solutions, shared experience and investment in young people.

🎶 Music is continuing to open doors for children and young people across Venezuela and beyond.

Through a partnership between the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, UNDP, and Fundación Musical Simón Bolívar (El Sistema), an ambitious South-South cooperation initiative is expanding access to high-quality music education, particularly for young people from vulnerable communities.

The project is strengthening inclusive learning spaces, training teachers and núcleo leaders, supporting the leadership of girls and young women, and revitalizing Venezuela’s instrument-making and repair sector.

More than 1.1 million children and youth are set to benefit, while knowledge and experience from the El Sistema model are also being shared with other countries across the Global South.
