How exactly can exercise improve your mood?

When you engage in high-intensity exercise, your body and brain produce hormones and neurotransmitters that have a positive impact on your mood, memory, energy levels, and sense of well-being. Some of these are known as endorphins, the body's feel-good chemicals.

After a good workout, your muscles are tired, but you feel more relaxed. You may also feel a sense of accomplishment, which boosts your self-confidence and improves your sense of well-being. Thanks to your workout, the pent-up tension and stress in your muscles and your mind are reduced.

Is your new year goal to go to the gym more? That's amazing! But just don't forget how important recovery days are in your fitness journey. Some benefits of recovery days include 👇

Alleviating muscle pain and soreness: During rest days, the body has a chance to remove excess lactate from the muscles. This helps to alleviate muscle pain and soreness.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Repairing and building muscles: Exercise creates microscopic tears in muscle tissue. During rest days, cells called fibroblasts repair and build up the muscle tissue.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Replenishing the body’s energy stores: Glycogen is a form of energy stored in muscles. Exercise depletes glycogen levels, which leads to muscle fatigue. Rest days allow the muscles to replenish their glycogen stores, thereby reducing muscle fatigue and preparing the muscles for their next workout.

Preventing injury: Overexercising puts repetitive stress and strain on the muscles, increasing the risk of injury.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Allowing the mind to rest: Overexercising can tire the mind as well as the body. Tiredness can lead to poor decision making during a workout routine, which increases the risk of injury.

FIRST 2020 INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT 🚨: MEET
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Gabby has been a Sports Dietitian Nutritionist & Personal Trainer for over 10 years. She works with athletes & active people to help them fuel their training & perform to the best of their potential. She is currently the trainer & nutritionist for the Hofstra University Dance Team, nutritionist for professional and recreational athletes as well as works with individuals with eating disorders. She is also a college professor of nutrition in Brooklyn!
As for fitness, she teaches to the public at Rumble NYC at both the Chelsea and Brooklyn Locations.
