This image is found in chapter 11 of my book, ‘Just Sayin.’ The chapter is entitled, “JK” as in Just Kidding.

It’s a phrase we often hide behind when we don’t want to hurt any feelings. How many times have you stated something you really mean, but out of fear of hurting someone, you lie and say, “Oh, I was just kidding” or you just laugh/chuckle to lighten the mood?

Now, friend, you and I both know that you were, in fact, not kidding or wanting to laugh👀

I want to encourage us to try honesty ALL the way. It’s the best thing we could do for each other. Say exactly what you mean and leave it at that. The truth will hurt people sometimes, but this doesn’t give you the OK to back out of honesty. All it means is that you speak the truth with compassion. If you were in his/her shoes, how would you want to be told a hard truth?

Let’s not use JK or LOL as masks that hide our true feelings. Inauthenticity WILL hurt your relationships.

Riding a bike is like an expression of freedom. It’s the high-speed at which it allows you to move. It’s the wind engulfing your entire body as you pierce through it.

When I see someone riding a bike, It reminds me of a time in my childhood when my training wheels carefully carried me from one end of the driveway to the next. In my mind I was that superhero, Flash, and nobody could tell me otherwise. It was exhilarating!

Believe it or not, I get that same feeling of exhilaration when I speak clearly and people understand me. When we’re on the same page, we can take on the world together. I’ve accomplished amazing things with people because of the ability to successfully articulate what I need/want.

Another one of my fav. images from my book. This snazzy guy shared a little of his history with me. As he offered information about his ancestors and how he came to be, I noticed a great sense of pride coming from him. He was happy to be alive and very excited about his identity.

It makes me think of how much we need people. They help us experience an important human need: belonging. He felt he was part of a great group of people and that contributed to his confidence.

People in our lives can gift us:
🖤belonging
🤍confidence
🖤pride

Something we can gift them in return is Good Communication, even more specifically through Active Listening. In my book, “Just Sayin”, I explain how listening well encourages a sense of belonging which, again, is an absolute human need!

Two beautiful girls frolicking on the green grass of Columbus Park on a warm summer’s day caught my eye. I thought to myself, “I gotta get them in front of my camera!” So with their mom’s permission (thanks to you, kind lady!) I snapped this pic. I asked them to hold hands while looking out into the distance. They. Understood. The. Assignment.

This is one of my favorite images from my book, ‘Just Sayin.’ These two sisters connecting through touch perfectly illustrates human bonding, which is achieved through verbal and nonverbal communication.

Communication is a gift from God to the human race that feeds the soul.

This is why I wrote about ways to communicate well; I want our souls fed.

Dreams. Passions. Purpose

I believe there is a specific thing each of us was created to do, but for some reason we don't always pay much attention to it. This has become a concern of mine simply because we are never really living unless that purpose is being fulfilled. I notice some people haven't given much thought to it while others ponder it everyday. The truth is, for all of you reading this post now, the thing you were created to do is found in those visions you have of yourself doing what you love. It’s found in your dreams and passions. This is why we can’t take these lightly. In case you are worried about paying bills, please trust when I say there is a way to make this happen. There is always a way to fulfill your purpose and take care of your needs at the same time!
