🚨 ATF Quietly Changes Ma*****na Language on New Gun Form 🇺🇸

The ATF Form 4473 is the federal background check form you fill out when buying a firearm from a licensed gun dealer. It asks questions about your legal eligibility to purchase a gun — including drug use, criminal history and other disqualifiers.

Now, the ATF’s proposed new Form 4473 appears to remove the old blanket warning that ma*****na use is federally illegal even for medical purposes.

That’s a major shift.

For years, law-abiding gun owners in medical ma*****na states have been forced into an unfair choice: exercise their Second Amendment rights or follow their state’s medical ma*****na laws.

⚠️ Important: This is still a draft form, not final policy. And it does not mean recreational ma*****na users are suddenly cleared under federal gun law.

📅 What happens next:

➡️ April 23, 2026: DOJ/DEA announced that FDA-approved ma*****na products and qualifying state-regulated medical ma*****na products are being placed in Schedule III.
➡️ May 8, 2026: ATF published its proposed Form 4473 changes.
➡️ July 7, 2026: Public comments on the proposed Form 4473 changes are due.
➡️ June 29, 2026: DEA is scheduled to begin hearings on broader ma*****na rescheduling.
➡️ After that: ATF will review comments before deciding whether to finalize the updated Form 4473.
