Back in 2019, I met Linda Sarsour for the first time! I attended one of her workshops where she rallied the crowd to stand up against racism, call out our politicians and be "unapologetically Muslim".
6 years ago me, was careful and cautious. Didn't ruffle too many feathers and tried to keep everyone happy.

Watching this woman, who is a mother, being so loud and proud of her activism was not only inspiring but also made me self-reflect on how I navigate my beliefs around our political situations. And what kind of example I want to set for my children.

She has gotten so much hate and vile messages. There is a group of trolls after her. But this woman is unflinching and unapologetically herself!!

I am still not as loud. I am still very cautious. But I am a little more brave because of and voices like hers. I am more hopeful because of people like her. And I pray for her and her family's safety because of the kind of work she does.

Her strength is even more commendable because she doesn't speak for one kind of people only. Her stance is justice for all those who are victims of discrimination and hate crimes.

Currently reading. Written by a war hero from Sebrenica genocide of July 1995.
July 11th-22nd is the 30th anniversary of this genocide and world has not forgotten the atrocious war on innocent civilians.
The heart wrenching details of the war and courage of the people during that time makes me both sad and hopeful.
While visiting Bosnia and hearing all the stories of the war, I kept thinking how humans can subject humans to such cruelty.
And I couldn't help draw parallels to what has been happening to Palestinians today. We are all witnesses to their suffering - and we will be answerable for why we kept quiet and did nothing!!

Similarly, self-discovery is often a journey that unfolds over time, with gradual insights and moments of clarity.

It reminds us that embracing uncertainty and trusting the process is important, just like waiting for the sunrise with patience.

We parents, let’s embrace the slow, meaningful growth journey for ourselves and our children.

If we want children to be kind, empathetic, and inclusive in classrooms, playgrounds, and life...
We need to start teaching them _now._

Here’s how you can help your child practice inclusion in everyday spaces:

1️⃣ Talk about differences positively and often
2️⃣ Model inclusive behavior yourself
3️⃣ Encourage them to ask questions with kindness, not assumptions
4️⃣ Choose books and shows with diverse characters
5️⃣ Celebrate kindness just as much as achievement
6️⃣ Invite and include kids who might feel left out
