How do you feel when people hold you accountable?

For a lot of people who haven’t done the inner work, accountability feels like an attack because of its association to shame which is connected to the ego conversation of “I’m not good enough” that then leads to an inner system of violence — “perfectionism”. If unchecked, holds YT supremacy and misogynistic context. (Haha that was a mouthful!)

My relationship with accountability has changed so much since doing the inner work of healing and transformation. When people point to something that I must correct, shift, or change, I receive it now with joy and gratitude.

Why? because I’m clear that loving myself is my priority and I’m committed to my growth. So I continuously release the system of violence within myself AND I receive people’s contribution to me with humility.

I see people who do so in my life to be loving, generous and kind — they love me enough to hold me in excellence.

When you have the clarity of who you are, your worth and your commitment to growth, accountability feels like love.

Allyship takes work. It is not just a label and the process can be uncomfortable. It 100% needs emotional intelligence so we can handle the intense emotions that come with it.

This work doesn’t require us to be perfect but it requires us to be grounded in humility, a commitment to reprogramming/change and alignment from the inside-out.

Being an ally is a way of being and to be means to also do. You can’t be a loving person without loving. You can’t be courageous without taking action.

Remembering the Legends today.

I wish I could tell you I’m a super fan but I wasn’t. I wish I could tell you that he’s better than Michael Jordan but it doesn’t really matter.

Kobe’s death was my wake up call. It was the reason why I stopped pursuing the law school path and doubled down in my entrepreneur journey. Kobe and I were 10 years apart and that really struck me. If he didn’t have the luxury of time, why do I think I do?

I was arrogant to believe that I had the luxury to wait for things to fall into place before making the impact that I’ve always wanted to make.

So I decided I’m taking all the reasons why I wanted to go to law school and transferring it into my business.

From then on, I’ve been operating from: if I only had 10 years to live, what would my life look like and what would I be doing?

That’s why I do things scared. I do things without waiting for permission. I do things unapologetically aligned with who I am. I live and breathe everyday making sure that I’m leaving people with experiences I want them to remember me with.

Wait, hold on! Before you move on fully to 2021, have you done completion work or are you just brushing through it and be like f**k 2020!

I hear that. 2020 was absolutely rough for a lot of us but...

Completion is needed in every chapter of our lives. It’s the release we all need to do so we can move to the next chapter powerfully. It’s also highlighting gratitude instead of regret.

Before you power through this whole week — doing all that new year, new me(not really), new year resolution, 2021 goals etc. I want you to take a minute to reflect on this.

We sometimes get stunted from living in purpose because we fail to honor ourself as a multi-gifted being. We get stuck in the idea that it has to be just one thing when in truth we have more than that.

The more you get to know and honor everything about you, the more you'll see that no one can do it the way you could. Your life brand is unique on its own and the process on how you got to where you are is your intellectual property. That my friend is competition proof.

Forgive yourself.

It’s that time of the year. Some of us are looking at new goals, new year’s resolution, strategic planning 2021, life goals vision board. Etc. while some just stopped even trying.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Many times we stopped trying on doing something because we’ve let ourselves down so many times. So many failed attempts, dreams stuck in our heads and we play the reel over and over and over again -- to make it seemed real for a minute. All the what if’s, what could be. Etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For you to be able to move forward, you have to forgive yourself for those times that you failed — those times that you let yourself down.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Self-forgiveness is key in your success.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Like I said: Failing doesn’t mean that you are a failure, it means you have the opportunity to choose it again.

For non-white and non-heteronormative folks, we have been told to be a certain way, to live certain dreams, to conform to different societal BS that only limits our gifts and potential. The lines were drawn for us and the cannots' were embedded in our being that limit us from showing up confidently and true to who we are.

As q***r and POC, I have struggled to show up authentically in the workplace and felt the need to hide parts of me which costed me my self-worth and confidence. But the costs in reality looked like, not seeing myself as the leader in my group, saying pass to a promotion, not asking for a raise, giving away my Intellectual property for free to gain validation, and many more...

Listen, I was a recruiter in the past I knew how to do all that! I’ve taught and helped my candidates & got tons of success but it was only when I truly got connected to who I am and my worth when it finally clicked for me.

The solution is NOT a how to guide to get promoted, ask for more money, apply for higher roles etc.

The real solution is knowing who you are and your worth so you can advocate for YOU.

I am on a mission to help other WOC and LGBTQ+ professionals to do just that!

You have got to get used to hearing your voice!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all know that our society is not built for non-white and non-heteronormative people to fully express. We have been silenced and we have also chosen to silence ourselves to conform. Sadly, it's not created for us to feel and be safe to speak up. Growing up in an environment that didn't allow me to speak my mind, I forgot how my voice sounded.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My transformation journey allowed me to reconnect to my voice and get used to how it sound when I speak my mind. Being unapologetically me and living my life on my own terms mean aligning my voice too.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That means...
♦️Acknowledging myself when I feel the need to say something specially when it matters the most.
♦️Saying what I mean and meaning what I say.
♦️Cultivating a safe space and a community that allows me to speak freely.
♦️Being forgiving when it doesn't come out right or whenever I missed to say something.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm still learning and still in a journey of getting used to but here's the thing:
The only way for us to get used to our voice is to speak up and the only right time is NOW!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So I urge you to not shut yourself out nor tone it down. Start getting used to the sound of your voice because that's the more you can get better at it. Lastly, speak with intention! Intention is what will separate you from the noise and invite people in.

Oh and really the most important thing — GO VOTE!!
