Yes, it's a complete hardcore SALES job, BUT unlike most other sales jobs where you have to beat others to win over them, recruitment is an equalizer.

Candidates have a say, clients have a say, and you have your own say as their connector.

Unlike other lose-win scenarios, the magic in recruitment is that EVERYONE wins.

Why?!

Because you're dealing with highly critical decisions that are made by grown adults!!

They are smart, knowledgeable, and self-incentivized to do what's best for themselves. If you can get them what they each want (a client a candidate, and a candidate a better role than the one they're currently in), then you get PAID for this unique and special skill!!!

This is why headhunters get paid so much money.

We have a unique role to play in business, something technology and marketing CANNOT duplicate or substitute.

Hey, if you're a junior recruiter or even thinking about this career on the agency side - you gotta know what you're getting yourself into.

At worst, it's a total waste of time and a grind you could have skipped...

At best, it is a lifelong career choice and profession that now you'll have a newfound appreciation for!

While Module 1 is a great resource to just get the basics down on recruitment terminology - Module 2 is where things start to get VERY thought-provoking:

IS AGENCY RECRUITMENT the right career for you!?

So often, we see Dandan & Grace's posts online about recruiting generate so much interest in hopping into the career however...

It's NOT a hop to be successful.

It's an intentional pivot and it requires HARD WORK.

Like working harder than you ever have had to before.

It's incredibly important to learn that this isn't just a do it and you'll succeed sorta thing.

You usually have to dedicate a LOT OF TIME & EFFORT into it or else the tipping point never occurs and you'll constantly be drudging around the barrel for a commission check here and there.

This is why the industry has high exit rates. It's an actual tough job that realistically pays a lower than average base so you will have to starve a bit before you start to feast.

We don't want to paint an unrealistic rosy picture and hide the truth: Module 2 breaks it all down.

Small errors made on a daily basis in recruitment is what really kills your success rates. Furthermore, such little balldrops lead to you losing deals and hence time, which is the true issue here. There is no turning back in time after time has been wasted, and you have nothing to show for it.
What exactly does this imply? It implies you should tighten up on all of your calls, meetings, and contacts with anybody involved in the hiring process. Pre-close, repeat, dig deeper, ask better questions, explain candidate exclusivity, understand how to sell retained and exclusive business, write better on any front (resume design, advertisements, your Linkedin postings, etc), say what you need to say even if you don't want to say it.

Nobody's perfect, but if you want to make your billing target for the quarter, you should try to avoid making careless mistakes. If you get sloppy, it'll cost you in the end.
