Finally the media got it right!
For a long time I’ve been craving to see a more authentic representation of neurodivergence and especially how it is shown in women, and that of Autism.
I’m glad that the UK is at the forefront of casting a more deliberate approach vs fame and name recognition.
I could identify with Patience character in the show on a few areas. Mind you, it’s also about the phase where I am in my journey of unmasking and have yet to fully embrace it without shame.
It is tantamount to state the obvious that how our strengths have merit and add value. Maybe we need to stop focusing on the negatives?
‼️ Spoiler alerts: My thoughts and what I identify with
- The no touching. 💯
- The overwhelm of meeting people and what to expect from the unknown.
- The sensory issues , and for me the people talking.
- Walking away from conversations when I get overwhelmed without communicating.
- The enormous empathy, but not shown how neurotypicals do it.
- My fav, the tidy and orderly desk and space. The one episode where she walks into the space of a cluttered crime scene the smile,
- My favorite; the little boy and his behaviors. The mother’s journey and what it means....so much to dive into here. (I shall not say, don’t want to spoil too much).
- The omni-lens used to see community, person identifiers, condition identifiers, the subtle depiction of dysregulation and yet also what it looks like in others seeing it.....
-similar vs identical; possible vs probable 💯❤️ (I get gaslight for my exactness and literal usage and correcting others).
-.....shall I go on?
I maintain - “If you’ve met one (autistic especially), you’ve met one).
I’m curious what my other folks have got to say and do you identify or could relate to aspects of her character and living, routine, and burn out?
Great job !
