I had the best time with this little guy and his friends yesterday. Step 1: Put body in some form of nature. Step 2: Allow it to do its thing.
These little birds were close to extinction a few decades ago and are on their way back (yay!) - so entertaining to watch.
They rush into the shallow of each outgoing wave to peck for food, then with their tiny backwards legs a blur, they sprint back only just ahead of the new wave coming in.
Over and over they pecked and ran, and with each giggle at their barely clearing the biggest of waves I felt better.
I wondered at their growing community as they basked in the sun on the rocks, just doing their thing.
It was so clear to me how much these tiny beings mattered, I was grateful to all involved in their protection.
And here’s why we need to put ourselves in nature.
My brain struggles to conclude that my daily efforts are “enough” sometimes, but as I zoomed out and compared myself to this little guy yesterday, I became peaceful.
Perhaps my tiny impact matters too.
Perhaps my little dance of life is enough.
Perhaps God is watching my little dance with pride and joy.
Perhaps each of our tiny existences are miraculous and purposeful too.
Something to sit with for sure.
Sending you all a big whoosh of love as you all do your little yet significant dances today.
Joanna xoxo
Ps These little cuties are piping plovers 😍
