"In the still mind, in the depths of meditation, the Self reveals itself. Beholding the Self by means of the Self, an aspirant knows the joy and peace of complete fulfillment." ~ Krishna
We can't look for peace in the past, or even the future, if we intend to find it. Peace can only be found in the present moment, for it is only in the present moment where you will find yourself. By yourself of course I mean your real Self. Your most authentic Self. Not the self you claim to be when you are asked 'who are you?', but the self that is witness to your minds reply to the question. Who are you?
What your mind gives you is a thought, but you are not a thought. You have thoughts. This you is the the same you that was there at your 11th birthday, at your graduation(s), when you first learned to ride a bike, back even before you had a concept of 'you' when you were just.a baby. That part of you that felt that first breath of life when you were born is the same you that is experiencing your body breathing RIGHT NOW.
It is that part of you that never changes with time, experiences form but has no form of its own, has thoughts but is not made of thoughts. It is the only part of yourself by which you can know yourself because it is the only part of you that can know anything. When you can rest in the essence of your being, you know the joy and peace of being.
