Nutrition talk pt. 2!

Here to show you guys what a nice balanced plate looks like (and to show off what I made 👨‍🍳).

Protein - Flounder wrapped around crab meat

Grain(carbs) - good ole rice!

Vegetables(Vitamins and Minerals) - sauteed mushrooms, tomato and spinach

Sauce on Vegetables(Fat) - light butter and cream

A nice balanced meal that gives me all the nutrients I need and tastes great!

You don't have to starve yourself to be healthy and look good. Quite the contrary, you need to eat good filling whole foods!

If you'd like to learn more about nutrition don't hesitate to ask about how to get started!

Quick talk about nutrition!

Here are some of the staples that I always like to keep in my fridge. Lots of hearty vegetables can help you stay feeling full, keep you regular (💩), and provide you with a lot of the vitamins and minerals you need for a healthy body.

This picture is a bit deceptive though, there are a lot of foods that I eat that aren't shown here. I love my grains and carbs. I'm a big pasta, noodle and rice eater. So don't think I'm not chowing down on all that good stuff as well. Everything has its place in a balanced diet, and when you are working out and staying as active as I like to, you are going to need a lot of those carbs for energy.

If you have any questions about nutrition or taking the proper steps to being healthier, don't hesitate to reach out. I'd love to talk and help you create sustainable healthy habits!

INCORPORATE ROTATION!

Today we are going to talk about a core exercise I love called the cable chop! Why do I love this exercise you may ask? Well because it has you work in the transverse plane of motion.

There are three planes of motion, the frontal (forward and backwards), sagittal(side to side), and transverse(rotational). Each plane of motion is equally important and has its place in a workout program. The problem is that most people aren't incorporating much motion other than in the frontal plane.

To have a well rounded physique and to develop proper movement patterns it's imperative that you incorporate exercises like the cable chop into your workouts.

There are multiple ways to do this exercise; high to low (as you see me doing here), straight across the body, or low to high. Each will target your body in slightly different ways and as such it's a good idea to switch it up every now and again.

To perform the exercise keep your body stable, grab the handle and rotate through your trunk. Ensure that you are keeping straight shoulders and squeezing your core rather than pulling with your arms.

Enjoy the oblique and transverse abdominis workout!

Yesterday's run to the gym was great! I felt good and it got me nicely warmed up for my workout.

Running was something that I hadn't done much since highschool but got back into during the pandemic as a way to get fresh air. Most of my cardio previously came from playing sports, but in order to stay within covid guidelines I had to give that up mostly.

Running is a fantastic way to get moving and to increase not only your cardiovascular strength but the endurance of your legs as well.

Here is the thing though, running does have its downsides, especially when done incorrectly and not under the supervision of a professional! Running form varies greatly person to person and poor form can cause a lot of issues in your joints due to the impact that running entails. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't run. What it does mean though is that you should do it in a sustainable and safe way as to avoid injury! My suggestion would be to start by taking up walking. Increase the distance little by little and then as you feel comfortable, move towards jogging, possibly adding short sprints in.

Remember that the most important thing here to to stay healthy and not injured! If you're injured, you can't train properly, so make sure you are training in a safe and sustainable way! Get after it people!
