Good evening Lynx fans! Please bear with me for this lengthy post.
This weekend was our second tournament of the season—March Madness in the Akron area. We finished with a 1–2 record, but the heart and never-quit attitude our team showed was very rewarding to witness.
We came out very flat in our first game yesterday and lost to the team who earned 3rd place. In our second game, we battled in the first half and were down by only 6 points at halftime. The second half was a different story, though, as we were trailing by 21 points very quickly. We fought back, but it wasn’t enough as we lost 50–36.
In our third game, which was played today, we were able to come away with our first win of the season (35-33) as we had another battle with a familiar foe who beat us by 1 point last weekend. We were down by 4 points at halftime and kept it within 5 points until there was less than 1 minute left in the game.
That’s when the game got extremely interesting. We scored a quick basket to cut the deficit to 33-30. I won’t go into too much detail, but one play later we were awarded four technical free throws after an ejection. One of our players clutched up and made three of those four free throws tying the game 33-33. We were then awarded possession as well as a result of the ejection. Moments later, that same player ended up driving to the basket, pulling up and hitting the game-winning jumper as three opposing players tried to block his shot.
It was a complete team effort today and all weekend as we had multiple players really step up. I’m very proud of how this team continues to fight no matter the situation or circumstances. They controlled what they could control and kept their emotions in check throughout some intense games. Great job, fellas! You are getting better and your hard work is paying off. GO Lynx!
