The New Paltz Athletic Association is proud to award four outstanding seniors with the 2026 NPAA Sports Scholarship at last nights Varsity Athletic Awards Banquet.

This years essay prompt asked applicants to reflect on the prompt:

"How has participation in sports impacted you personally?"

NPAA is also honored to present the Band Scholarship to Dylan Friedman in recognition of her contributions to the New Paltz music program.

Congratulations to New Paltz High School senior Dylan Friedman, recipient of the John Ford Memorial Award, presented to a student athlete who exemplifies excellence, leadership, character, and dedication both on and off the field.

Dylan's high school career has been nothing short of extraordinary. A standout in Cross Country, Indoor Track, and Outdoor Track, she is a three time New York State medalist whose talent and determination have made her one of the most accomplished distance runners in New Paltz history. As a captain of multiple varsity teams, she has led by example, inspiring teammates through her work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Her achievements extend well beyond athletics. Dylan will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors, as well as the New York State Seal of Biliteracy and the New York State Seal of Civic Readiness. She has served as Drum Major of the Marching Band, President of the National Honor Society, a Board Trustee for the Maya Gold Foundation, and a student representative on the District Equity Team, demonstrating a level of leadership and service that has touched every corner of the New Paltz community.

This fall, Dylan will attend the University of Vermont, where she plans to major in Wildlife Biology and minor in Exercise Science, with the goal of becoming a wildlife ecologist and conservationist.

Congratulations to New Paltz High School senior Nicolas Burda, recipient of the John Ford Memorial Award, presented annually to a senior athlete who exemplifies dedication, leadership, character, and excellence in athletics.

Nick’s athletic career at New Paltz has been defined by his commitment as a three sport varsity athlete, competing in football, basketball, and lacrosse. Whether on the gridiron, the court or the lacrosse field, Nick has consistently represented our district with a team first attitude.

Throughout his high school career, Nick has been a key contributor across all three programs, earning the respect of his teammates and coaches.
His ability to balance the demands of multiple varsity sports while excelling academically speaks to the work ethic and discipline that have become his trademark.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Nick was recognized as an MHAL Senior Scholar Athlete, highlighting his success both in the classroom and in competition.

This fall, Nick will continue his academic journey at North Carolina State University, where he plans to study Finance.

Congratulations, Nick, on an outstanding high school career and this well deserved honor. We wish you continued success as you begin the next chapter at NC State!
