Who Dat Nation, Kellen Moore’s latest comments give us four reasons to feel encouraged: Bryce Lance’s physicality, the rookie receivers making the most of their opportunities, growing team confidence, and Martin Emerson Jr.’s progress. Starting with Lance, Moore praised his willingness to play physically, especially when blocking in the running game. His speed brings excitement, but learning the offense and handling the less glamorous responsibilities could help him earn trust. Moore also credited Lance and Barion Brown for taking advantage of extra practice opportunities after injuries and changes in the receiver room pushed them into bigger roles. Both rookies gave the coaching staff something positive to build on.

Doug Nussmeier Challenges the Saints’ Offense to Think Fast!

The New Orleans Saints strengthened their secondary by claiming 6-foot-2 cornerback Decamerion Richardson off waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders. The former 2024 fourth-round pick appeared in 27 games with seven starts during his two seasons in Las Vegas, recording 46 defensive tackles, 11 special-teams tackles, and one pass breakup. Richardson joins the active roster as safety Lorenzo Styles Jr. moves to injured reserve with a calf injury suffered during the preseason. Styles, the Saints’ 2026 fifth-round pick, must miss at least the first four regular-season games before becoming eligible to return.

Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier also praised Tyler Shough’s growth entering his second NFL season. According to Nussmeier, Shough was recognizing the correct reads last year, but his decision-making was sometimes a step too slow. Working with the scout team helped him process plays faster, improve his timing, and become more comfortable operating the offense. Nussmeier began noticing everything coming together around Weeks 4 and 5, and he now sees a quarterback who understands the system and is ready to take another step forward.

Nussmeier also made it clear that he does not believe in heavily scripting practice periods. When players know exactly what is coming, coaches may not get an honest evaluation of how well they understand the offense. Instead, he prefers “call-it” periods that force the quarterback to read the defense, make decisions, and execute in real time. That approach creates pressure, tests football intelligence, and gives the coaching staff a much clearer picture of which players can truly perform when the answers are not provided beforehand.
