New Orleans Running History. 06-09-2026 post. Mardi Gras Marathon 1982 entry form. How times and $$ have changed. Course was on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge. Marathon ran Causeway Bridge 1979 to 1985.

Course Measurement Seminar - Simplified Version.
Anyone interested in learning. *Especially those affiliated with local and regional running organizations.
FREE for anyone that wishes to attend. Basics of what is needed and how to measure an accurate course. Seminar will not include details for certification for a course.
Keeping it simple to hopefully get courses more accurate.

New Orleans Running History-June 4 Edition. " Unique Race events "America's Champions" 5K held during the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trails in New Orleans - 1982. Event was open to public and finished inside Tad Gormley Stadium. Good size turnout nearly 1000. Recall issue with fork lift driver wanting to drive along track as runners finishing.

I hear often that years ago we did not cancel races due to bad weather.
True.. extremely rare back in late 70s , early 80s. Simply put one did not have easy access to weather information. An even more unique detail back then races were much more competitive based with participants willing to run in any conditions. Participant safety from both event management and participants weather related was not fully understood .
These days access to quality specific weather details are available so that participant safety is able to quickly decided. Participant themselves as a whole understand, realize and accept.
