Opening day buck shot in South Carolina, Aug. 15, 2016, at Cypress Creek Lodge in Garnett, S.C. My third year trying for a mature velvet buck. Shot it with my .30-Remington AR. Love that rifle.

In honor of our warm winter, I decided to drift back to a place and time that wasn't so warm. April 2014, in the Northwest Territories in pursuit of musk ox. ScentBlocker picked up my Illinois buck photo on their page! That's kinda cool, eh? (If you follow my big game hunting pics, then you know I'm a huge ScentBlocker fan. Most comfortable stuff I've ever worn.)

So here's a better pic of my Illinois gun buck shot with Illinois Whitetail Services Nov. 22. Crazy story....I climbed down from my stand to leave the woods and catch my flight home. To this point, I had spent 2.5 days in the stand, but hadn't seen a shooter buck. When my feet hit the ground and I started to pack up to leave, this guy chased a doe right to me....50 yards. Talk about getting it done with no time to spare!

So most of you have seen this one already, but I keep forgetting I have this page in my arsenal. Bear with me..... Here's the 10-point I shot Nov. 2 in Hardin County, Ill., with Doug Doty at Illinois Whitetail Services LLC. It was a tough hunt in 80-degree heat, but Doug put me on the bucks - yet again. Awesome hunt, and I will be back in a couple of weeks for gun season!
