DAY FIVE: SPEAK A TRUTH

today i selflove dare you to identify something true that you’ve been keeping quiet about, and to do something about it

maybe you’ve been avoiding a conversation that you fear will be awkward or uncomfortable

maybe you’re afraid of hurting someone’s feelings, or showing up as the person you’ve become instead of who you once were

or maybe there’s a value or belief you hold that you’ve been hesitant to share on your biz platform, for fear of losing followers, friendships + clients

you get to decide which truth needs to be spoken right now, and how big you’re ready to go with it

but a big part of loving yourself better + loving your biz better is knowing your truths + speaking them

because it’s good for the soul + it’s good for the world around you

i talk a lot about “self,” and am on a mission to normalize prioritizing our own joy, wants + needs, simply for their own sake

and that is true

it’s also true that showing up as your most embodied, satisfied self allows you to show up as a better citizen of your communities

and frankly, your communities need that from you

so again, you get to decide where you go with this today

AND i hope you carry these thoughts with you as you continue to navigate what it means to be a leader + a good human in the world

DAY FOUR: REJUVENATE YOURSELF

today i selflove dare you to declare something that rejuvenates you, and to do something about it

if your self-care game is already tight, you may need no other prompting than this, so have at it, bloom!

but if you’re having a hard time even connecting to the word or feeling of rejuvenation, i invite you to take a moment to sort it out

because you want this to be something that actually DOES rejuvenate you, not something someone else told you would, could or should

so… what restores YOUR energy?

what makes YOU feel revitalized, recharged, renewed, refreshed?

even if it’s been a minute (or a lifetime) since you’ve FELT it, you can take a mind body scan to see where + how, specifically, you’re feeling depleted, lagging, lifeless or tuckered the eff out

from there you can identify what would juice you back up!

still feeling stuck? one of my fave rejuvenators is TIME… so maybe you can start by thinking of where you can carve out or create some time for yourself

i say that i help people claim joy like it’s their job (because it is)

but we DO choose to embrace beauty + claim joy when + where we can

so… what lights you up about what you do, makes you smile about who you are?

wanna make better decisions, more easefully?

by better, i mean better for YOU

decisions that feel better to make, no matter how tough it may be to make them

decisions that are really, truly YOURS — made from YOUR heart, head + soul

(not from your business coach, marketing strategist, mastermind buds, or current hot trends)

because while all those other folks’ insights MAY be keen, well-researched + results-based (which is sometimes debatable, tbh)

none of it takes into account your OWN inner wisdom, expertise + experience

and the more you try to make decisions based on what everyone else thinks (even the experts), the further you get from the powerful, magicmaking knowing within you

which is made up of all you’ve learned (formally + informally) as well as what you love + what lights you up, and the whispers + nudges you may have gotten quite good at shoving down, discrediting, or casting aside

i’d love to share the experience of what i call intuition-driven decisionmaking with you!

contrary to how it may sound, this isn’t decisionmaking AT THE EXPENSE of expert guidance

i’m not asking you to forego logic, rationality or facts in favor of vague feelings, emotions or impulsivity

i’m inviting you to learn how to marry the two, to discern where other peoples’ opinions + experience will really, truly serve you, and where it noisily crowds out your own

I have a friend who routinely tells me that she loves how much i love myself

this is often after i've said something like "oh, i KNOW i'm the s**t" lol

it's not something that comes easily to her, or to many of my clients

if you sometimes struggle to connect to your "i am SO the s**t" mindset, here are a few reminders you might find useful:

🦚 you are allowed to think you're the s**t

🌼 you are allowed to be psyched about how far you’ve come, even if you're not "there" yet

🌊 you are allowed to pause + reflect, to stop + bask a bit.

🎈 you are allowed to say no, just because you want to

💃 you are allowed to celebrate before you’ve achieved your end goal. you're allowed to celebrate when you miss your goal entirely

🌟 you are allowed to own the full-on fabulosity of all that you are + all that you’re not, all thatyou’ve done + all that you haven’t, all that you will + won’t do and will or won’t be

🔥 you are allowed to call the shots, change your mind, flout logic or embrace it — to follow yourintuition, do what feels good + offer no good reason as penance or payment

self-care: beyond bouquets + big treats

you know i love a beautiful self-care moment

gorgeous flowers, pretty produce, colorful cocktails, big smiles… what’s not to love?

but make no mistake, self-care is wayy more than that

sometimes… self-care is messy

sometimes it’s missing the friday night show to settle down for a long winter’s nap in the hot heat of summer

or ordering the beautiful peach salad from nextdoor two days in a row instead of hitting up the farmers market, because you just can’t get there

or missing your niece’s softball games (both of them) bc your biz tech waged war + if you don’t take care of it now, you’ll be up all night + likely still late

forget win-wins… these messy moments of mine carried losses with them

(except for the peach salad… that was divine)

it’s easy to be all for self-care when it’s easy, or sexy, or immediately satisfying

(so please, do be all-in there! those neon moments help herald you through the blurrier, more shadow-ridden ones)

but it’s a whole other story to champion self-care when it doesn’t feel like self-care is championing you

when the gratification isn’t immediate, or obvious, or exclamatory… you might doubt self-care + wonder where the payoff is

hell, even the most well-meaning friend will pipe up to chide you for sacrificing your self-care when you’re simply navigating a low-win, messy self-care moment

sometimes the win is in keeping any of the balls up at all, even when from here all we see is what’s about to smash down on our faces or hit the floor

insinuating that self-care is always princess pretty + delightful is a severe disservice to you + to the power of self-care itself

embracing pretty delight whenever you can isn’t saying that it’s allllll pretty delight

and this weekend… my self-care was NOT pretty delight

it was about what had to be done… but a “had to” that i chose

sometimes work DOES come first. sometimes getting the job done (+ well) is the thing that nourishes the most

there’s a fine line between prioritizing family from the 💖 + martyring yourself because you’re afraid not to

ready for self-care that grows with you, even in the messy spots?

:: the most boss thing you can do ::

as a passion-powered solopreneur, small team visionary, or the glue that holds it all together… what would you say is THE MOST baller, boss, critical, non-negotiable thing you can do — for yourself, your clients, your family + your business?

normally, i struggle when asked to name THE MOST anything. too many choices, too many grey areas or competing needs to dictate different answers

but on this topic, my answer is swift + certain

nothing to wonder about here

the single most critical thing you can do, for biz AND life success, is tend to your own self-care

don’t believe me?

raise your hand if you’ve ever felt so overwhelmed, burnt out + SPENT that you felt like you didn’t have anything left to give — to anyone

now tell me what came NEXT…

🔸 did you end up underdelivering in a very UNLIKE-you way?
🔸 were you uncomfortably underprepared (and it showed, and you’re still embarrassed about it)?
🔸 were you left drained of all the enthusiasm that usually powers you through, right when you needed it the most?
🔸 did it feel like you were underwater drowning, floundering to gasp for air?
🔸 did you have to cancel calls or drop balls?
🔸 did you muscle through it (barely) or muck the whole thing up?
🔸 did you miss an important family milestone or event, that you’re still kicking yourself for?
🔸 did you snap at someone who didn’t deserve it… or just plain snap?

as a leader + a lover, someone daring to do brave + beautiful, innovative new things in this world — neglecting your self-care is a sure-fire way to screw up + feel s**tty doing it

maybe not today, or even tomorrow… but if NOW isn’t the “right” time to prioritize your wellbeing, then whenever the levy does break will most likely REALLLLLLY not be a very good time

and here’s the thing… you don’t get to schedule in your breaking points

which means that you MUST schedule in your self-care saving points

and if the word “self-care” rubs you wrong, ditch what everyone says about mani-pedis + mimosas and let yourself discover what truly rejuvenating, meaningful self-care looks like for YOU
