In memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005. This workout was one of Mike's favorites and he'd named it "Body Armor". From here on it will be referred to as "Murph" in honor of the focus

All are welcome to join us on May 30th, 2022 between 8 am - 2pm at Nelson Lakeside Park in Long Lake (just a couple miles west of Wayzata) for a day of excitement and activities. Admission is free to spectators and there is something for everyone including: Live DJ, Athlete competitions, Stand Up Paddleboard raffle, AND MORE! 2022 MDC Podium Finishers- These athletes showed up, paid their respects, and worked through all the elements!

The ladies dealt with heavy rain making the rig so difficult to hold on to, and the fellas worked though blazing heat and they all did an amazing job!

What a privilege to host over 250 athletes as they performed ‘Murph’, honoring our Nation’s fallen heroes.

We asked MDC athletes to think about the WHY as they performed ‘Murph’ yesterday. Hero workouts are symbolic gestures of respect for all the fallen soliders and service men and women who defend our freedoms.
🇺🇸
Athletes from around the world, regardless of ethnicity or nation, honor the courage of our servicemen and women by pushing to the limit with this (intentionally) brutal workout.

Every Memorial Day weekend, we remember Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy.
🇺🇸
Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy was killed in action in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005. He was 29-years-old. Murphy was awarded the U.S. military's highest decoration, the Medal of Honor, for his actions during the War in Afghanistan. His other posthumous awards include the Silver Star Medal (which was later upgraded to the Medal of Honor) and the Purple Heart.

Murphy created this workout himself, and he originally titled it ‘Body Armor’—hence the weighted vest.

MDC Registration moved to FitHAUS Yoga Room due to possible weather.

As of now the schedule is as posted, but we may need to pause for lightning or severe weather.

Athletes and spectators may use FitHAUS for shelter if needed.

Featuring another athlete joining us tomorrow!! Jon Ferneau will be in our Men’s Elite heat! Here’s a little more about Jon so you can help cheer him on tomorrow!

“I joined the Army in 2009, where I spent 6 years as a Military Police Officer. I deployed for 15 months to Southern Afghanistan in 2012-2013. I achieved the rank of Sergeant before ending my service in 2015.

Previous Murph Experience:
I surprisingly have never done the Murph workout.

I have been training with one of my coaches at Life Time Alpha - St Louis Park is Alec Blenis, who is the current world record holder for the Murph! Although this will be my first Murph experience, I plan to make it a yearly staple in my life.”
