Before we fully close the chapter on the 25/26 season, we want to celebrate something truly amazing about last year. 💙 Thanks to everyone who came out on Play Forever Wednesdays, and Subaru of America, Inc., we raised $51,050 for 11 local nonprofits doing incredible work across our mountain communities.

Every lift ticket added up. Subaru matched what our guests gave, dollar for dollar, and that turned a great winter into something unforgettable. We also got to team up with Ski Noir 5280 for two Slide Through Sessions, helping new skiers and riders feel the magic of their first day on the mountain.

That money will be going out to help protect the places we love and make the mountains a place for everyone.

Ned Gravel is coming back to Nederland, CO on July 12!

From the event organizers -> “Our courses are some of most challenging. This was not our original intent — but when we started building the course from our regular rides, we realized there were very few other races that have as much climbing, as many technical sections, and all at an elevation of 8,000-10,300 feet. Our courses pay homage to the hardened miners, dreamers and misfits who came before us as we ride through ghost towns, past mines and up mountains.”

Today and every day, we honor the life and legacy of Rett Ertl — adventurer, scholar, storyteller, and one of the people who helped shape the spirit of Eldora.

Rett’s roots at Eldora ran deep. After his father helped establish the ski area in the 1960s, Rett took over operations of what was then known as Lake Eldora Ski Area in the 1980s, carrying forward a family legacy that helped define skiing in Colorado. Eldora wasn’t just where he worked—it was truly his happy place. He built lasting friendships here, skied the mountain with family and friends for decades, and remained deeply connected to the Nederland and Eldora communities throughout his life.

In 2023, Rett co-authored Eldora: Six Decades of Adventure, preserving the history and stories of this mountain he loved so much. The book won the 2023 Skade Award for outstanding work on regional ski history, presented by the International Skiing History Association. Rett’s passion for culture, connection, and community touched countless lives both here at home and around the world.

Rett passed away on January 30, 2026, after a life fully lived. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.

We send our heartfelt condolences to Tania, PT, Sasha, and the entire Ertl family. Thank you, Rett, for helping make Eldora what it is today.

A celebration of life will take place at 11:00 AM on Sunday, May 24, at Eldora’s Indian Peaks Lodge. Anyone who would like to celebrate the remarkable life of Rett Ertl is welcome to attend.

Shout out to our Rentals team for training the Slide Thru Sessions crew on how to tech & maintain gear from Eldora’s latest season rental fleet donation to their gear lending library. By sharing knowledge, equipment, and access, we’re helping remove barriers and create more opportunities for people to experience the mountains this winter.

Do you know the amazing story of Eldora local Barbara Ferries Henderson?

Before the spotlight and long before downhill racing opened its doors to women, Barbara Ferries Henderson was already making her mark.

In 1960, she won the U.S. Junior National Championships at Aspen Mountain, kicking off what would become one of the standout ski racing careers of the decade. Just a year later, she took home both the Roch Cup and Harriman Cup, and by 1962, Bob Beattie named her to the U.S. Ski Team. From there, she stepped onto the world stage, earning a bronze medal in downhill at the World Championships in Chamonix.

She went on to represent the U.S. at the 1964 Winter Olympics alongside teammates like Billy Kidd, Bill Marolt, and Jimmie Heuga, at a time when women in downhill were still the exception, not the norm.

Barbara’s impact goes far beyond results. Inducted into the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame in 1978, she helped open the door for generations of women in ski racing.
