The following is from me and me only unless someone speaks below this post for themselves and says “I agree” so here goes:
So the elephant in the room. Demon football.
Lots of fiction, feelings, beliefs and 54th row coaches who can’t tell you two things about the team that seem to want to be the loudest voice of change for NSU. The wannabe martyrs if you will. That think they have an answer or maybe want one of their friends to come coach the team. Or most recently, instead of athletics success many have tried to use NSU as a hiding spot to push political agendas. (why people try to hide in packs to make political points. I’ll never know but that’s a different story for a different day.)
Now back to the topic of Demon football
“It’s embarrassing… oh my god if the Demons had this If they had that, yeah I’d be there at the games”
Would you? Bc history says otherwise.
In 2004 when the Demons went undefeated at home and won the conference title. They smacked Sam Houston at home in front of not even 5000 people 45-27. A number you can find at most SEC BASEBALL games.
In 2008, the Demons were playing McNeese at home for a chance to clinch the Southland title. Attendance: 4,214
In 2014 When Jay Thomas and the Demons BEAT Louisiana Tech in Ruston 30-27. The Demons next home game was less than half full with 8,200. But attendance did go up. Oh ok great so If we can win a game where we were 26 point underdogs THAT will raise some eyebrows??
In 1998 the Demons were 11-3 and hosted UMASS in the I-AA (now FCS) semifinals with Standing room only for head coach Sam Goodwin’s (RIP) and his team’s run.
In 1998 before the dynasty in the south was being built, Gerry Dinardo and LSU went 4-7.
So nothing to watch down there yet was there?
There’s a common denominator with Demon football that has been going on for 23 years. Not the coaching, the ADs, the presidents, none of that.
Once this town chose LSU in 2003, it was over with.
And that’s fine choose who you want to watch. I can’t tell you what to watch on TV. Don’t get this twisted. I’m not whining about LSU. I love what Lane Kiffin is doing over there. He’s telling everybody. “Here’s what I’m gonna do. If you have a problem with it I could give a damn unless you can prove I’m breaking the rules”
But stop lying to yourself and others that NSU football failed YOU. Once YOU decided they were no longer good enough for you 23 years ago. That’s when it went down hill. Not in 2023. Not two weeks ago against Louisiana Christian and not Saturday night at Louisiana Tech.
Once 2003 hit and LSU won the national championship this town said ..l. NSU. You got your chance to talk trash to the whole country bc of what Saban and LSU did that year and live vicariously through Justin Vincent, Matt Mauck, Dwayne Bowe, Devery Henderson, Corey Webster, Marcus Spears. Which don’t get me wrong that’s the fun in it. The flagship school for the state was STACKED and Who wouldn’t want to see that. With a team spearheaded by 7 studs like that.
But don’t act like Demon football turned on YOU.
And I’m not playing the big loyal demon either. I can’t sit here and say that for all 23 years I’ve been sitting here feeding I haven’t which is why I don’t tell them who to hire or what they’re expectations are because I haven’t contributed enough to do that.
Now those are the hard facts of this waiting to be disputed at any point any day on a live podcast. You just tell me when you want to do it.
So what’s the real reason Demon football is no longer good enough for so many of you? Bc it’s not wins and losses. It’s not three years ago. It’s not two weeks ago. It’s not what happened at La Tech. So how about telling the REAL reason they aren’t good enough for you.
