At the airport

I saw a lady with a small dog. Its vest said “service animal”. I wondered what services it rendered. She plopped her luggage in a chair and secured the dog’s leash to the chair. She then asked a random stranger to watch her dog while she went to the restroom. I was glad it wasn’t me. I thought about what her reaction might be if the man simply said no, and went back to his magazine. I wondered what might happen if she needed the dog’s service while she was in the bathroom. Would he have to bring the dog to her? That would be uncomfortable. What was he supposed to do if the dog needed something? What if the dog acted in a disagreeable manner while she was away? Would he be responsible for its behavior? He mildly nodded in agreement to watch the dog and she hurried off to the bathroom and directed the dog to sit…it ignored her. I felt sorry for the dog. Instead of a carefree life of chasing cats and mailmen, it was now saddled with this woman.
