Hate to break it to you, but the industry has changed. Now more than ever if you want to have the support of a label behind you, you MUST invest in yourself.

Gone are the days where you'll be discovered while playing in a small club. You must learn how to navigate this industry on your own. That includes building a brand, generating a large following, creating moments for your fans, and writing songs that capture their heart.

Getting your hands on a development deal is becoming less and less common as record labels are more interested in pouring gasoline on the fire you're already burning. That being said, you have to create your own opportunities and make a name for yourself.

Labels want to see that you're not only talented but also committed to your career. Will you have the hard work ethic it takes to not give up when the going gets tough? Are you worth investing 6 figures in? Do you have the authenticity and uniqueness in what you bring to the table?

I always tell my aspiring artists, if you're serious about making it in this industry, shut off Netflix, stop making excuses, and get to work.
