Nuno Matos Equi-Precision After discussing ways to help U.S.

This school was the brain-child of Nuno Matos, a Portuguese trainer and Working Equitation competitor who received his instruction in the methods of teaching working equitation from the great Pedro Torres, undisputed Master Horseman and many-times World Champion in the sport, and Julie Alonzo, who has been active in promoting the sport in the United States. There is a great deal of interest in the

sport of Working Equitation in the United States, with many fine horsemen and women embracing the sport as a way to advance their partnership with their horses. equestrians advance in the sport, Pedro and Nuno conceived of an approach where they would focus on teaching professional horse trainers and riding instructors as well as committed amateur riders through a formal multi-year program of education, with in-depth, week-long, small group sessions taught by Nuno, in key locations throughout the United States, supplemented by shorter sessions open to the public, co-taught by those enrolled in the trainers' program and Nuno himself. As part of the school, those enrolled in the official trainer program are expected to participate in the weeklong trainer seminars 2-4 times per year, as well as to compete in the major Working Equitation Competitions held in the United States, where Nuno Matos will serve as on-site competition coach. In addition, students enrolled in the trainer program will be expected to train with Pedro Torres a minimum of one week during the course of their time enrolled in the school (timing and location of this work to be determined on a case-by-case basis, to accommodate people's schedules / finances).

🇬🇧 PORTUGUESE EQUESTRIAN ART IS AN INTANGIBLE HERITAGE OF HUMANITY

After the Portuguese Horse Riding was inscribed in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage on April 28, 2021, “Portuguese Equestrian Art” was approved today as Intangible Heritage of Humanity during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, taking place in Asuncion in Paraguay and which was attended by a Portuguese delegation that includes Rosa Batoréu, Ambassador of Portugal to UNESCO (Paris); João Ralão, General Secretary of APSL and Luís Calaim, Director of Parques de Sintra.

We must express our delight at this recognition, first for the recommendation for this inscription, and then to the Committee for the decision to accept it.

In Portugal, all those who made this candidacy possible were also very important, with special emphasis on the two entities that joined the APSL, representing the equestrian community, to promote this project: the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art, through Parques de Sintra – Monte da Lua, and Câmara Municipal da Golegã. Special thanks to the Coordinator João Costa Ferreira.

Equestrian Art was born, in Portugal, as a cause and consequence of the existence of the Horse, which naturally suggested it, and which was continually perfected by it. The principles of Equestrian Art in Portugal are based on maximum respect for the animal and its well-being. It can be concluded that the unique characteristics of our horse were fundamental for the emergence of Portuguese Riding, and this for its selection.

Portuguese Horse Riding is practiced throughout the national territory, and has enormous international expression, to which the existence, in 21 countries, of Lusitano Horse Associations contributes, fundamental for its promotion and proximity to breeders and horse lovers around the world. .
