Participants who consumed more than one diet soda daily had roughly four times the risk of developing dementia compared to those who drank one or fewer per day.
BUT…
When researchers excluded participants who had obesity or diabetes at the start of the study, the significant association between diet soda and dementia disappeared.
I still do not recommend diet sodas or artificial sweeteners, but metabolic dysfunction is the bigger problem for your brain.
Signs of Metabolic Dysfunction:
• Obesity
• High Blood Pressure
• Insulin Resistance: Persistent high fasting glucose, prediabetes, Type 1 Diabetes, or Type 2 Diabetes.
• Elevated triglycerides
• Persistent Fatigue
• Weight Gain and Management Issues
• Digestive Issues
• Fatty Liver Disease
• PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
• Chronic Stress
Do not fall into the trap of thinking that medication is the long-term solution for any of these. That approach may relieve symptoms in the short term but usually makes the underlying problems worse in the long run.
PS: This is a clip of 83-year-old Hazel challenging herself by adding some spins to her dance routines. She is an example of someone that is reversing her dementia. Her MOCA scores are improving. Her balance and cognition in daily life continues to improve.
