After years of feedback from the local running community, the National Park Service has completed a major trail improvement project on Slacker Hill, flattening the 1.61-mile climb from the Golden Gate Bridge parking lot to the top (676 feet of elevation).

Same views.
No climbing.
The suffering has been removed.

For those of you doing hill repeats on the Slacker Trail Climb (0.21 mi, 169 ft, 14.8%)โ€ฆ you may need to update your training plans.

Strava segment times are expected to improve dramatically.

If youโ€™ve never run I HIGHLY recommend it. Itโ€™s kind of a darling race in the running community. Beautiful course, the locals come out to cheer, incredible vibes, great for PRs, and really well organized!

I had the chance to pace the 2:10 half marathon group this year with my run club ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

Started with a big crew and ended with one too! Always fun when a group locks into the pace and works together through the miles.

My strategy as a pacer for this race is to run even splits so runners know what to expect mile to mile. For the 2:10 group that meant about a 9:54 pace per mile. On hillier courses I sometimes manage the splits a little differently, but with the gentle hills and long flats in Napa, this is the best way to help everyone stay relaxed, enjoy the race, and get it done.

Part of the job is also easing the group through aid stations so everyone can grab water or fuel, and keeping the energy up as the miles add up. ๐Ÿคช

We finished in 2:09:20 chip time and 2:09:47 on my watch, right where we wanted to be. I usually aim to bring the group in about a minute under the goal time.

This was my fourth time volunteering as a pacer at this race and itโ€™s always such a great experience. Thank you Napa Valley Marathon and to all the runners who trusted me with your big day.

When I first started coaching, I remember runners reaching out and asking about running during pregnancy and after becoming a parent. Many of them told me they werenโ€™t getting much guidance beyond being told to slow down or stop running altogether. Who wants to hear that? And even now it can still be hard to find support and resources for runners navigating this season of life.

This week we hosted a community run in the rain with Olympian and then gathered back at Sports Basement for a Q&A led by Mimi from to celebrate Shannonโ€™s new book Strong As A Mother. The book pushes back on outdated advice and offers science-backed guidance and encouragement for staying active through pregnancy and postpartum (finally!).

Shannonโ€™s family was there, her kidsโ€™ school community showed up, lots of runners joined and the room was full of people from across the Bay Area who came out to support. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Coit Towerโ€ฆ itโ€™s been a minute.๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝโœจ RunClub SF and Renew Physical Therapy are teaming up for a free pop-up fun run tomorrow (Tue) night! Weโ€™ll meet at 659 Commercial Street (you can leave your things there during the run) and head out toward Coit Tower. Canโ€™t wait to get run together after a mostly wet and muddy week. ๐Ÿคช

This run is a great way to get a feel for and check out .renew an awesome resource for the Bay Area running community.

And donโ€™t forget to linger after for a happy hour social. We earned it. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Weekend training recap: On track with half marathon prep. Got in a 2-mile warm-up and 10-mile tempo run around Lake Merced. Feeling strong and looking forward to mixing in some hills tomorrow.
