What a fun start to the tournament! Through pool play the girls would go 0-2-1, but it was good enough to secure the #2 seed going into bracket play.

Game 1 versus Caledonia Chaos was another tight fought battle. They would take an early lead, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 1st but leaving 3 stranded on base. Chaos would answer in the bottom scoring 2 of their own. In the bottom of the 2nd, Chaos would score 2 more to take a 4-2 lead. The girls answered right back in the top of the 3rd scoring 2 more runs to tie the game up at 4’s. The girls were able to make quick work in the bottom of the 3rd, with a 123 inning.

Game 2 versus T2 was a tough go for the girls. They struggled to find much offensively as they were held to 1 hit and no runs. The girls still played well on defense, holding T2 to 4 runs on 7 hits. They stayed in the game until the very end.

Game 3 versus Illinois Select was a battle until the very end. They would tally 4 hits and 2 runs in the top of the 1st. They would hold that lead until the top of the 3rd, where a single followed by a double would bring another run in. In the bottom of the 3rd, T2 would get hot with the bats and get 6 of their 9 hits, bringing in 4 runs. Although the girls lost 4-3, they played great and are battling hard.

As bracket play starts in the morning, the girls look to find a better offensive rhythm in their rematch against T2 at 10:30am.

These girls have their final test of the season. They are excited to show everything they have learned, one last time.

What a great day at the Bownet Memorial Day Showdown.

The girls didn’t let the last minute change of schedule affect them. Everything was shifted 2 hours later due to weather and field conditions.

Game 1 was all about defense. Playing Elite to start the day, both teams were making plays. The first inning was 3 quick outs for both teams. The girls would get 2 on base in the top of the second, but failed to push any runs across. The bottom of the second would be a quick 3 up 3 down. The bottom of the 3rd would be what decided the game. Elite got all 5 of their hits in the game during this half inning, scoring 3 runs on those 5 hits. The girls answered back in the top of the fourth, loading the bases on 3 singles. Unfortunately they would leave all 3 stranded, losing game 1, 0-3.

Game 2 was right away. Playing Chaos in a tight battle. The girls came out in the top of the first with 3 singles, scoring 1 run. They would stave off a push in the bottom of the first to keep them scoreless, where Chaos would hit 2 singles and have 1 reach by HBP. The second inning was silent, the girls managed 1 single which was the only offensive action. In the bottom of the third, Chaos was able to push one across on a HBP and 2 singles. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Game 3 was the first round of a double elimination bracket. The girls faced Elite for a second time in the day. The girls came out on fire. Scoring 3 in the top of the first, on 4 singles. Elite would answer with 2 runs, on 4 singles. The bottom of the second would decide the game, where Elite was able to score 2 more runs, on 4 singles. Each team would get 2 hits in the 3rd inning, but fail to push any runs across. The girls would lose 3-4.

These girls are showing amazing growth. They tied a team that beat them 11-25 in February and then lost 5-6 at the beginning of May. They battled a team in 2 separate games that beat them 0-14 in March and then 0-8 at the beginning of May. They are showing amazing growth and understanding of the game.

Time to take another step forward in the morning, as they prepare to battle in an elimination game. Go Folds!

What a great weekend of softball for these ladies. It was cold, and they went from the latest games Saturday to the earliest games Sunday. They have shown a lot of growth, and they learned a little more this weekend. That is a recipe for success.

Game 1 - They tallied 9 hits. Trailing most of the game, they took a 5-4 lead in the top of the last inning. They were not able to hold the lead, and ended up losing 6-5.

Game 2 - They tallied 4 hits. With a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the last inning, they would allow 2 runs to score. Losing 3-2.

Game 3 - The bats were cold, only gathering 2 hits and scoring no runs in their loss. They were able to make a few great plays during the game. Showing a lot of defensive growth from the start of the season.

Game 4 - The girls couldn’t string the hits together. Scoring 0 runs on 6 hits. Losing to the tournament runner ups. Making a few more great plays.

They are improving every time they take the field. At this age, Learning is Winning.

It was great to get some winter game reps in for these girls. They had the earliest game of the day, then had to sit and watch 2 games before getting to play their 2nd and 3rd back to back. They are excited to get back to player pitch, but the coach pitch was a fun change of pace. It meant a lot of offense was needed. The girls would score 39 runs on 60 hits, throughout the 3 games. They also learned what some of the focal points of training will need to be throughout the winter, as they prepare for a busy Spring season. It’s exciting to see these young girls grow and learn every time they get to put their gloves on.
