🚨 Athlete Story from Lorie Clevenger 🚨
My CrossFit journey begins as I’m sitting in my car looking in the windows of the gym. I text my friend Dean & said, “Hey, you know that CrossFit gym I was going to join? Well, I’m not”. He quickly asked why & I replied with how fit everyone was, how they were doing things I couldn’t do, there was equipment I had never used, etc. I actually said “I need to be more in shape to come here. I’m out of my league”.
He said all the things a good friend would. Then he said, “I thought the girl I know wanted something different. I thought the girl I know wanted to change. You can keep doing what you’re doing & you will keep getting the same results. But if you want something different, you’re going to have to DO something different”. I became a member of Muncie CrossFit at the Arsenal that night in late 2016, but I didn’t really start my CrossFit journey until early 2017.
I honestly didn’t really like CrossFit in the beginning so I only came a few times a week. I felt new every time I walked in because I didn’t know the people, the lingo, the workouts, the equipment, etc. Within 3 months I realized that I still wasn’t doing things different & I wasn’t seeing different results. So I started showing up 5-6 times a week, I started actually trying to get to know people, the lingo, the workout standards, etc. That’s when I started seeing something different in myself.
There are so many things I have accomplished & am proud of, I can’t just pick one. I know for most people it’s all about the PR’s (& don’t get me wrong, I’m very proud of those too.) But a few of the things I’m most proud of are the annual physicals I don’t dread anymore because I’m not worried about my weight, BP, glucose or EKG anymore. I’m proud of the role model I hope I am to my girls. I’m proud of the confidence & strength I’ve gained both mentally & physically. I’m proud of the knowledge I’ve gained about nutrition. & I love the friendships I’ve made.
I started this fitness journey to get skinny & healthy (which was the same thing to me at the time.) Now I continue doing CrossFit & weightlifting at Muncie CrossFit because my goals have changed. Now I want to be strong & healthy both mentally & physically (not skinny.) This gym provides me with the coaching & support to continue to do exactly that, and keep hitting PR’s even at my young-ish age!
