Football is controlled adversity.

It puts young people in difficult situations and asks them to respond. Early mornings. Long practices. Summer heat. Sore muscles. Tough losses. High expectations. Moments when quitting would be easier than continuing.

And then it teaches them to keep going anyway.

Practice is an opportunity to learn discipline. Every workout teaches commitment. Mistakes demand accountability. Every setback develops resilience.

Football doesn’t remove hardship from a young person’s life, it introduces them to it in a structured environment where they can learn, grow, and overcome.

Under the guidance of coaches and alongside teammates, players discover what they’re capable of when things get hard. They learn to trust others, push through discomfort, and pursue goals bigger than themselves.

The game won’t make every player a champion.

It won’t guarantee scholarships, trophies, or recognition.

What it can do is help build stronger, tougher, more disciplined young men and women who understand that growth often comes through challenge.

Because life will test all of us. There will be failures, disappointments, obstacles, and difficult days.

Football prepares kids for those moments.

In a world increasingly built around comfort and convenience, football still asks something different: embrace the struggle, do the hard work, and earn the reward.

Play football.

Not because it’s easy.

Play football because it teaches lessons that last long after the final whistle.

⛳️ Had a great time playing in the Mount Vernon Football Gridiron Club Golf Outing yesterday at Vernon View GC! Shoutout to Coach Weber, his staff, & all of the volunteers that worked to make it happen. Also, kudos to The Phillips Family & staff at Vernon View for their work! With what feels like 30 inches of rain in the past two weeks, the course was pure!
