As tryout season gets closer, we alware the same questions…
“What are coaches actually looking for?”

Here’s the honest answer from behind the bench 👇

🏒 Effort & Compete Level
We can teach systems. We can teach skills.
We cannot teach effort.
Kids who battle for pucks, hustle on every drill, and don’t quit on plays always stand out.

⛸️ Skating First
Edges, balance, and mobility matter more than fancy stickhandling.
Strong skaters who can start, stop, turn, and stay on their feet have a huge advantage.

🧠 Hockey IQ & Decision Making
It’s not about being perfect — it’s about making smart plays.
Do they panic with the puck?
Do they look up?
Do they understand spacing and teamwork?

👂 Coachability & Attitude
We love players who:
• Listen when coaches talk
• Try to apply feedback
• Encourage teammates
• Bring positive energy

A great attitude can separate two very similar players.
