Resistance motors for rowers, ellipticals and bikes are mostly made of plastic. Over time they can wear out. Here this resistance motor still gets power to it but it is having trouble turning. This increases or decreases resistance. A piece has worn inside and the motor will need to be replaced. If your machine needs service or even just an overall preventative maintenance checkup, feel free to reach out.

In this video you will a loud squealing sound that may make you think it’s coming from the drive motor. But in reality it’s a simple fix. The drive belt has worn out and will need to be replaced. Normal wear and tear. A $49 fix instead of a $250 drive motor replacement. If you experience any issues that do not seem normal for your machine, let me know. I’m glad to help.

Customer had an issue where the resistance motor was no longer working on their rower.
Before installing the new resistance motor I always reccomend plugging in the new one first to see if that is actually the issue.

I plugged in the new one and the new resistance motor still did not work. So this issue is not the resistance motor.

Next was to plug a new frame wire from the resistance motor to the neck wire that goes to the console. Before I ran the new wire through the machine I plugged it in to test it.
Turns out that wasn’t the issue either.

It was actually a pinched neck wire that needs replacing. Moral to the story is that you don’t need to install the new parts first all the time to see if that is the issue. Because if it isn’t the issue, you have spent time that wasn’t needed installing it.

Turn the audio up.. No, this sound is not normal. If you are hearing this on your treadmill or something similar, call a technician. It can be something minor or something major. In this case, it was a $150 part plus labor. If it had not been fixed soon though, it could have been a lot more expensive.

Here is why it’s important to have a licensed certified technician to assemble your exercise equipment.
Many companies that deliver your equipment also offer to assemble it. Sadly they are not certified or trained though. They hire 3rd party companies to deliver and assemble.

In some cases, they either do not assemble it completely, throw away parts, or break parts while assembling. This causes a headache for the customer because now they have to wait to get their brand new machine fixed. Here are some example I have seen of parts missing or even broken on newly assembled machines by other companies.

I ALWAYS recommend getting someone who is trained and certified to assemble your new machine.

What’s under the hood? When’s the last time you took the cover off the front of your treadmill? For most people, never. Which is understandable.
When you use your machine, the drive motor and walking belt can draw in dust and other tiny debris. In less than a year, your machine could look like this. It’s important to keep your machine well maintained to help prevent breakdowns.
If you have never looked under the hood before, check it out. You might be surprised. 🙂
