Panther Nation-
We hope that your summer is off to a great start and that everyone is enjoying camps, fun, and relaxation!
This weeks' coaching spotlight is none other than our fearless leader- Head Coach Nate Mahon.
Panther Nation couldn't be more excited and grateful to have Coach leading our program. Fiercely competitive and loyal to his players, Coach Mahon excels at getting his players to be comfortable- being uncomfortable. In life and in sports, that is where everyone's potential and GROWTH is- and Coach knows how to get the absolute best out if his players by pushing them to places they never thought were possible.
One of the top coaches and coaching minds in the city, he thrives on the pressure and competition of running a competitive community-based program and being in the big chair. Being a head coach is not for the faint of heart in any sport, especially football- but leading programs and turning around programs is what coach specializes in.
Schematically versed in all 3 phases of the game, you will be hard pressed to find a coach with more knowledge of scheme, situational football, and the x's and o's than coach.
Being a community-based program, we don't have the luxuries of recruiting kids from all over the city to play for your beloved Panthers, and that's ok. What we do have is a vibrant community full of great families and great kids who love the process- the grind and never shy away from hard work. Our kids want to take Little Miami to places we have never been- and Coach is the right man to lead us there.
And it's working- after a successful campaign last year, participation and excitement in our football program is at an all-time high. Success breeds success, and Coach's vision for our program and our community is to continually grow, and he appreciates more than anything for the opportunity to coach your kids and teach them about the great sport of football, and about life. In our humble (and admittingly biased opinion) football is the ultimate TEAM sport and there is no better sport to teach kids about life than football.
Coach Mahon is back for year 2 of his 2nd stint as Head Football Coach at Little Miami High School. His first stint with the Panthers (2016-2019) was a turnaround story; he went from inheriting a program that had won just three games in three seasons to posting 19 wins and back-to-back winning campaigns.
This past season was highlighted by competitive, exciting football and a record number of ECC wins, total Offensive production and Defensive output in a single season, since joining the ECC.
Mahon, a 2003 Hamilton High School graduate, was a first team All-Ohio Baseball and Football player. He has a long coaching career spanning college and high school football. He began as a graduate assistant at Miami (OH) University in 2008 following his football career, later served as Co-Offensive Coordinator at the University of Indianapolis, held defensive roles at The University of Cincinnati, under Butch Jones and led Northwest High School to 21 wins and OHSAA postseason appearances from 2013-2016. At Hamilton, he guided the Big Blue to 15 wins in three seasons and hosted the first ever home playoff game.
“One of Coach Mahon’s greatest strengths is his ability to implement a plan for program resurgence,” Little Miami Athletic Director Matt Louis said, “and this community has never been more eager to support its athletic programs.”
This season marks his 19th consecutive season coaching high school/college football. In 13 seasons as a Head Coach, he holds a 63-50 record in the regular season. Over 40+ former players have gone on to play College Football, with 2 of those currently in the NFL.
In addition, he is very active coaching youth baseball as well as youth basketball and youth football within the Little Miami Youth Programs.
Coach Mahon, his wife Jinene; Roman, Kennedy and Lucas have been proud residents of the Little Miami School District for the past 10 years.
It's a great day to be a PANTHER!!!
