So it is about time for an update on Poppy ✨
Poppy has been doing a lot of hanging out this year. We had her barefoot for the winter but when spring rolled around and we put shoes back on her she was pretty uncomfy. After some diagnostic work and X-rays we found that the angles in her foot weren’t quite right. So we changed her shoeing and trimming. While the vet was out for that appointment I had her draw blood to test Poppy for Lyme. She was showing signs of being more than just a “thin skinned thoroughbred.” The results came back positive so she went through a treatment of doxycycline and has come away like a brand new horse. It makes me so happy to see her comfortable and happy again. After all of this she came in from turnout one morning not moving/acting quite right. Somehow she strained her back while outside. I have been doing massages for her and the vet just recently came out and did a chiropractic session where she found her pelvis was tipped up and off to one side, a couple ribs needed adjusting, and she had a vertebrae in her neck that was out of whack. So finally after putting all of this care and work in she is back to being ridden and is a happy mare! I’ve started trailering her to a local arena to practice and she is doing wonderfully! We cantered for the first time together last night and she is getting much more laid back about traveling. So here’s to hopefully having many more updates with some big steps in progressing! 🐎🎉
