Itās time for the social media manager to get back at it, and maybe finally post how our first ever Carolina Clash went!!!
On day two of the Carolina Clash, after a great practice session and heat race the day before, Lucas was able to relax and cheer on his friends as they raced the lower mains, and he was ready when it was his turn for the B-Main. He started 4th against a strong field of 10 drivers, and when the outside line got stacked up on the start, Lucas was stuck on the outside of 3-wide by turn 4! That 3-side resulted on some cars getting together and brining out a caution at the line as lap 1 was completed.
After a brief red flag, they got back going for a single file restart with Lucas restarting in 6th, he made a great pass right away and yet another caution brought a quick pause to the action. Unfortunately this was one of those learning moments, and Lucas didnāt come off turn 2 well and a car was able to get to his inside, and brought the field with him, hanging Lucas out to dry on that outside where he had nowhere to go but to the back of the field.
He finally got to the bottom and refocused, and finally having a long run where cautions didnāt keep coming out, his car was able to come in and proved to have speed! Unfortunately, with lap times in the lower 6 seconds, these races go by quickly and sometimes you donāt have time to make up ground. A caution came out with 5 laps to go, getting the field grouped back up and giving him one last shot. Lucas restarted 8th, and was able to avoid a wreck that happened RIGHT in front of him, those were some fast hands!!!
It was going to be a 2-lap shootout to the finish. Lucas restarted in 6th, and needed to finish 4th or better to race in the A-Main. He made a quick pass to take 5th spot, but as I said, theselapb tick by so fast. Less than 30 seconds from then they waived the green for the restart, the checkered flag was flying and Lucas had caught 4th place but one more lap was needed to make the pass. Lucas finished in 5th in the B-Main, which made him the X car for the A-Mainā¦one spot better than the week before with a lot less work to get there!
Being the X car, we had to treat it like we were racing, be ready to go. Lucas was strapped in and so hopefully heād be called into action. The X car is basically a backup car. If someone drops out before one full green-flag lap is completed, the X car is sent in to race. Lucas was so nervous and anxious as he watched all the cars in front of him get pushed off to go out on the track, and mom just had to slowly roll him forward in line to sit there and waitā¦. But unfortunately that first lap went by and Lucas was told he could get out of his car. The boy was heartbroken, being the X car is not very fun. Getting the mindset ready to race, heās in the car, ready to battle⦠only to get out and pack up. We just reviewed the race again so he can keep that mistake fresh in his mind and learn from it for his next race!
As always, MAJOR thanks to The Pool and Patio Company for their sponsorship to keep Lucas on the track this year, a Scott Seggi (Happy 50th birthday!!!. We couldnāt do this without support from our sponsors. Seriously. Thank you so much for helping us elevate Lucas's racing program!
A huge thanks to our friends at Henry Albright Racing . We could not have done the Dixie and Clash races without you. The advice and help from Jess and Henry, the cheerleading and comedic relief from Harper and the support and love from Katie⦠we appreciate yāall more than words can express.
Our friends at Little E Racing gave mom that much needed support while Elliott and Jeremy gave Lucas incredible advice and support. We are so appreciative to have your support and your friendship!
So many families were thrilled to see Lucas's progress over the last 2 weeks, and it touched our hearts more than we can explain. Mom and Dad have no idea what we are doing and are learning as we go, and it can be so discouraging. All of the support and excitement over his races has just blown us away and has made us feel more at home than ever!
Helping each other is how the club grows, and thatās why our club at North Carolina Quarter Midget Association (NCQMA)MA is the best. Families supporting families so it stays fun. We cannot wait to get back on the track with our friends VERY soon and apply more of what weāve learned!
