The Vermont Mountaineers today announced the hiring of Brian Murphy as field manager, completing a nationwide search to lead the club into its milestone 25th Anniversary Season.

“Our board of directors is pleased to welcome Coach Murphy to the Mountaineers. His proven track record, deep experience, and dynamic energy make him the ideal leader as we embark on our 25th Anniversary Season,” stated General Manager, Brian Gallagher.

Murphy arrives with an impressive 23-year collegiate coaching résumé that includes NCAA Tournament appearances at the Division I, II, and III levels. He previously served as head coach at both William & Mary and Merrimack College, compiling more than 300 career victories as a Division I head coach. Murphy earned Coach of the Year honors in both the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Before becoming a head coach in 2013, Murphy spent successful tenures as an assistant at Wheaton College, Bryant University, and Brown University. He also brings valuable summer baseball experience, having served as an assistant coach in the Cape Cod Baseball League and as a manager in the Northwoods League.

The Mountaineers look forward to Murphy’s leadership as the club prepares to celebrate a quarter-century of summer collegiate baseball excellence in Vermont.

The Mountaineers Organization would like to thank Coach Kevin Smith “Mountaineer 6” for his service over the past two years. Coach Smith worked tirelessly, not only during the season but also behind the scenes year-round to recruit players, communicate with coaches, and was always willing to assist in any way to help the organization and community. We wish him and his wife, Nikki, well in their move to Florida.

Lastly, we are highlighting our two All-Star starters, Alex Benevento and David Alvarez, for being in the top five of overall NECBL hitters for the regular season.

Next, we’re highlighting the guys on the mound!

Jackson Hulcher ends the regular season on top with 38 strikeouts.

Rex Hauser in eight appearances recorded a 2.39 ERA with two wins.

Hank Lippman got the most innings on the bump, throwing over 27 and ending second in strikeouts with 34.

Next up, we’re going back to a HUGE day for the Neers during the 2026 season!

The Vermont Mountaineers sent five All-Stars to the 2026 NECBL All-Star Game and came home with BOTH the MVP and Home Run Derby Champion! 🏆🏆

In the Derby, Rex Hauser came from behind TWICE before taking home the trophy in the swing-off, belting his 23rd homer of the day to seal the win!

Then, after the All-Star Game, Alex Benevento was named MVP after launching a solo shot in the second inning to put the North up 2-0!
