In honor of sharing hunting camp with these two again this weekend, this time in mule deer country, we had to bring this one back.

Last season, Nate made quick work of this bull after Layne pulled him in on a string. The bull came straight in and Nate closed the deal with a frontal shot.

That’s what all the practice is for. Understanding elk anatomy, knowing your shot placement and having the confidence to execute when an opportunity presents itself in the field.

Now we’re loading up and getting ready to make some new memories.

Two more days until the 2026 hunting stories start getting written. This time, this crew is chasing mule deer.

After putting on miles and miles without turning up a bear on opening day, Casey and Carson headed into day two knowing the work would eventually pay off. Fifteen minutes into the morning, everything changed.

Casey made it happen. He got to share the moment with our brother Carson, making memories we will be talking about for the rest of their lives.

The photos don’t do this bear justice. He’s an absolute stud.

Every bear harvested is also an investment in the future of the landscape. More calves. More fawns. Healthier wildlife populations.

Congratulations, Casey. Heck of a first bear, and an even better story behind it.

What are your thoughts? Does switching up to a new bow, arrows, broad heads, or release every year produce success? Maybe for some. However I’ve seen the men that share hunting camp with me, produce results year after year with 5-10 year old equipment because of their anatomy and animal experience! Shot placement is everything in my book!
