Had a great spring 2024 season and played our last tournament Saturday at the inaugural Bryn & Harrison Thompson Memorial Foundation Tournament. Was a wonderful event for an even better cause…. Our crew came in 3rd in a very talented and worthy field of girls!!!

Thanks to all parents, kids, and coaches for their time and efforts along with all the organizations putting on such wonderful events for these young girls this spring!!

About our assistant coach:

Trent Livingston is a native of Rayville, La. He has spent many years on a softball field, first coaching junior high rec softball as a college student. His passion for leading and teaching children only furthered in his long tenure as a counselor for a Christian youth camp called Camp Buckner in Burnet, Texas. He has coached both of his daughters in recreational softball since they were tball age, and most recently coached both in basketball. Trent looks forward to helping build confidence, teach fundamentals and sprinkling in fun where he can. Trent is married to Cassie Livingston and they have two daughters, Vivian and Stella. When he’s not working at Rimcor, Inc., he is the co-owner of BayouLife Magazine and Max Porter Provisions.

About our head coach:

Gary Poynter played high school baseball at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas, where he pitched. He was drafted in the 48th round of the 2005 MLB first-year player draft by the Cincinnati Reds.

Poynter turned down the Reds and attended Weatherford College where he also pitched. The Texas Rangers drafted him in the 39th round of the 2006 draft. After turning down the Rangers, he pitched at Lubbock Christian University and was drafted in the 2008 draft by the San Diego Padres in the 39th round.

He pitched in the San Diego Padres farm system from 2008-10. He pitched in 66 minor league games and was 5-2 with a 3.91 ERA.

He retired from professional baseball on March 9, 2011. Later that year he was named pitching coach at Abilene Christian. Since then, he has enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team and daughter’s softball team, along with several other high school coaching positions. Gary is married to his wife, Alicia, and together they have seven children.

Louisiana Hot Stix will be hosting an open practice at TPS (1514 Sidon Street, Monroe La) on Sunday, April 7th from 2-4 pm. We are looking for 2/3 players to fill our roster. This is a new team comprised of players that have played travel ball previously and are looking for reps in Spring. There will be no fees. Players will pay at the plate for local tournaments and purchase two dri-fit jerseys. Practices will be held on Sundays (when there are no tournaments). All of the girls on our current roster play rec ball - which is encouraged. We want these girls to have fun, learn and enjoy the sport. Call for more information.
