The lake is owned and maintained by Roger Boskus, it is on his property and his whole family skis with us. Practices - We practice any night/afternoon/weekend that people can. There are no set days or times, usually we text each other during the day to see if anyone wants to go out and to make sure that someone will be able to drive the boats (there are 1-2 of us who can drive). The more you pract
ice, the better you will get and the more you will get out of the club, but it's pretty laid-back.
3. Equipment - You don't need anything of your own, we have a few team skis, vests, etc, but mostly everyone shares their equipment. If you have anything (gloves, vest, ski, etc) of your own that is great too.
5. Tournaments - There are usually 2-3 tournaments/semester, and most are in Texas or Louisiana. There are some local ones in the fall that we will do as well. If we are traveling we will leave friday afternoon after classes and come home on sunday after we finish skiing. We either camp out at the lake or stay in a hotel, depending on the location. Travel expenses, except food, are included in the dues. Tournaments are a blast, you learn a lot and meet tons people from the different schools! There are all types of skiers competing at the tournaments from beginners who can barely get up to professionally sponsored skiers. Everyone is friendly and encouraging and excited to see the sport grow.
6. Events - Competitive skiing consists of three events: Slalom, Trick, and Jump. Slalom is the most popular; you ski on one ski around a course of six bouys, and try to go around as many as you can. The trick event consists of one trick ski and points are awarded based on the difficulty of the moves done during the run. Jumping is done on two skis, the skier must ski over a five foot ramp, land, and keep skiing. The length of the jump is then measured. (We wear special long padded suits and helmets).
