Lake Monona Sailing Club

Lake Monona Sailing Club Sailing The Lake Monona Sailing Club came into being in 1969. Several of the founders are still racing today.

It was created by a fun loving group of sailors who wanted to do a bit of racing with their sailboats. The Club is serious about racing, but it's also family oriented with many of the racing teams being spouses.

Just when we least expected it, beautiful sailing weather happened! Despite a forecast of gusts to 3 knots, we had plenty of wind throughout the race Wednesday! 17 boats in 3 fleets participated and rehashed things at the Stonebridge Pier over grilled brats afterward. A great summer night!

Beautiful day for a race on the lake today! Followed by delicious food at Stonebridge Pier courtesy of Rad - who was also driving the winning Flying Scot. A man of many talents!

The summer Wednesday night series wrapped up tonight with an abandoned race due to lack of wind. But it was a beautiful night to get together for tacos and a beverage on the shore!
Congratulations to Greg (FS 3010) and Andy (MS 41) for raking the top spots in their fleets!
We continue weeknight racing (fingers crossed!) on Wednesday nights with the Champagne Series on August 5.
Next race is Saturday Aug 1 at noon.

The thunderstorms tracked far enough away that we managed to get a great race in on Wednesday! Congrats to Greg and Will (FS 3010) in the Flying Scot fleet and Andy and crew (C-41) in the C Scow fleet on their wins.

No on-the-water shots today, but here’s the pier during pre-race boat readying. And an interesting way to fix a halyard that got jammed up the mast during the race. (Photo credit Nate Warnke)

Saturday was an absolutely beautiful day for sailing - the right amount of wind and not too hot. Congrats to Grace and Hunter for pulling ahead on the last leg to finish before the other 7 Flying Scots on the course. Greg was the first and only Scow out. And Ward and Kathy finished first in the 3rd start.
Next race is Wednesday at 6:30 pm.

Wednesday’s race was canceled (again) due to an ill-timed thunderstorm. But a few club boats went out for a practice sail in beautiful weather on Friday evening.
Next race: today (Saturday) at noon!

Another day, another surprise in the weather. Eight Flying Scots and one catamaran fought their way off the pier into the 12-20 knot wind. We were all bracing ourselves for a wild ride and then… the wind moderated significantly half way to the race course. 🤷‍♀️
Congrats to Dave and Tim ( #6193) who navigated the wind shifts to victory. Special shout out to new Flying Scot owner and skipper Austin and crew Michelle and Grace for finishing in the top half. That’s an accomplishment in this fleet!

Many weather apps were consulted before the call was made to abandon the race this evening. The tornado warning clinched it. Sad to miss a race but glad not to be on the water when that “weather blob” hit!
Next race: Saturday at noon
