We're four days out from Iowa's season opener against Northern Illinois, but still no closer to an answer on the Hawkeyes' quarterback competition.

Kirk Ferentz said Tuesday that Hank Brown and Jeremy Hecklinski will both play on Saturday, with no specific details on how they'll split time.

A special night in Burlington for some outdoor volleyball!

Called the “Battle at Bracewell,” West Burlington defeated Fort Madison and Holy Trinity beat Burlington.

It’s just the 3rd time ever volleyball matches have been played outdoors in Iowa.

An incredible run to Williamsport comes to an end for Davenport Northwest Little League, falling 7-1 to Ohio. They were one of the final three teams left in the U.S. bracket.

A few notes on this historic summer:

-Northwest reaches the for the first time since 2005
-5th team from Davenport to reach the LLWS since 2000
-Cooper Thissen and Anthony Johnson Jr. became national stars
-Thissen’s line at LLWS: 8 2/3, 0 H, 0 R, 26 Ks. Just two balls put in play. Not hyperbole to say an all-time LLWS performance, right?
-Became first Midwest team to reach U.S. winner's bracket final since the LLWS went to double elimination in 2010
-First Midwest team to start 2-0 at the LLWS this century

They put the nation on notice and rallied a community back in the QC.

Was a pleasure to cover them in Williamsport for WQAD. Congrats Northwest LL!!

BREAKING:

Sherrard HS is cancelling the rest of its varsity football season after this week's home game against Orion. The decision is due to a "limited number of varsity-ready players available" with fatigue and injury concerns.

The school is shifting to a JV-only schedule and hopes to return to varsity competition in 2027-28.

Zach Weigel, Sherrard's first-year head coach, on the decision:
"This is an incredibly tough decision but one that we know is the right one to make at this time for our players and program. We are heavily focused on building the Sherrard Football program up from the top down and know that this tough decision will help us develop our team. While we are heartbroken for the 5 seniors we have, we are confident that this decision will benefit our program for years to come."

Davenport Northwest has won its first game of the 2026 Little League Baseball World Series after a no-hitter against California.

The crowd says it all!

A COMBINED NO-HITTER by Davenport Northwest Little League to beat California 1-0!

Cooper Thissen goes 5.1 IP with 15 K’s and his solo HR in the first is all Northwest needs to get the win.

Anthony Johnson Jr. closed it out with a strikeout to strand the bases loaded!

Northwest’s next game will be on Sunday, facing the winner of the New Jersey-Pennsylvania game being played tonight at 7.
