Testimonials ********* Our son’s biking background at fourteen years old consisted of riding to and from school. In October of 2010, our son decided he wanted to race bikes and joined Sho-Air/Rock n Road Junior bike racing team (In 2011, the team was selected the #1 Junior team in the nation by USA Cycling). In January of 2011 he attended a weekend race clinic with the team in Santa Maria, California and that is where we were introduced to Brandon Gritters who had been personally invited to coach at the clinic by the team director. We were immediately very impressed with Brandon’s coaching skills. He was very generous with his life long knowledge and wisdom of racing bikes. Not only was Brandon extremely knowledgeable, his delivery of that information was done with such good spirit and humor that my son and the other juniors felt extremely motivated to work very hard during the camp. After two days of observing Brandon our family knew that he was the one we wanted to coach our son. We saw enormous growth in our son’s racing ability under Brandon’s coaching the first year. Our son trained with Brandon once a week. Brandon pushed our son to his physical limits and at the same time greatly increased his knowledge of race tactics and general bike knowledge. Brandon was right alongside on every ride and our son also learned from just watching Brandon ride. The best testament to Brandon is my son could not wait until the next week’s ride. He continued to get stronger and flourished under Brandon’s tutelage as seen by his race results. The 2011 race results from our son riding 12 USA Cycling sanctioned races were top 10 in 11 of them and top 5 in 6 of them. He placed 5th in the Junior State Criterium Championship and 10th in the Junior State Road Race. In 2012, our son joined the High School mountain bike team. We again utilized Brandon’s coaching and expanding it to include personal training plans to support the weekly rides. Thanks to Brandon’s expertise in all facets of bike racing, our son had a very successful season in the High School mountain bike series. He ended the season taking first place in all five of the regular season races and concluded the season by winning the High School Mountain Bike State Champion race becoming the Freshman State Champion of 2012. Brandon’s influence extends beyond learning about racing tactics and bike knowledge. We consider him a role model for our son in due to the empathy and respect he showed towards our son and all others involved. His dedication and work ethic are exemplary and he is a joy to be around. We are so appreciative of our association with Brandon and will continue to utilize his coaching skills. It started back in January with our team camp in Santa Maria. You were instrumental in making our time trials, rides, drills and lectures both enjoyable and educational for our 26 junior participants. Early in the season, we decided to add our elite training rides. Your knowledge of real CAT1 racing made the difference to our ten participants. This program now gives our more advanced members the harder rides they need. It also gives a “pathway” to our younger, less skilled riders. It gives them something to aspire to and grow into. Something they could only obtain OUTSIDE of our team in the past. You also assisted our riders, and other juniors, at the five Great Park junior training crits that our club sponsored. Our Velosport Junior Development program has achieved a great deal of success in the past two years. We won the SCNCA SoCal Cup Championship in both 2011 and 2012. We won USA Cycling’s Junior Club of the Year award for 2011. Our application for Club of the Year (2012) will be submitted in November, and we’re hopeful we can win again!
