Are you living your truth, or performing to belong?

In honor of Dolly Parton’s passing, her message felt meaningful: be who you are, share what you have been given, and never sacrifice your soul along the way.

“I don’t think you have to be a religious fanatic. I think God wants us to be who we are.”

“I was not willing, and still am not willing, to sacrifice my soul for anything… Everything good that happens to me, I feel like it comes from my faith and God.”

— Dolly Parton

The deeper work of Vishuddhi is learning to live without constantly editing, filtering, or performing ourselves for acceptance. Even spirituality can become another identity we hide behind, trying to appear more pure, holy, detached, or evolved than we actually are.

This applies to teachers too. Sometimes people expect a spiritual teacher to project certainty or appear beyond human struggle. But vulnerability does not mean the absence of practice, and projecting perfection is not proof of spiritual depth.

A sincere path should make us more truthful, not better at constructing a spiritual facade. We can guide others and still be human. We can acknowledge weakness and struggle without erasing what has been cultivated through practice.

Truth asks for something simpler: be who you are.

This is Vishuddhi discernment: becoming truthful enough that our outer life reflects our inner truth.

Be who you are. Let yourself shine. Share your blessings. Never sacrifice your soul for success, and remember where it all came from.

Speaking your truth is not enough.
First, know what in you is speaking.

This is part of the deeper work of Vishuddhi. The voice can carry clarity, but it can also carry fear, old samskaras, the need to defend, prove, control, or be understood. What we call “truth” is not always free from ego, conditioning, or emotional charge.

Silence asks for the same discernment. There is silence born from fear or self-abandonment, and silence born from wisdom, where nothing needs to be justified, defended, or added.

Vishuddhi is not simply about speaking more openly. It is purification — refining expression until both speech and silence arise from greater clarity.

Through kriya, pranayama, mantra, meditation, and stillness, we begin to notice the impulses beneath the voice. As those inner movements become clearer, truth becomes simpler, boundaries become steadier, and our relationships and choices begin to reorganize around what is actually aligned with dharma.

This week we practice with Vishuddhi and the wisdom of truth — learning when truth asks to be spoken, when silence carries greater wisdom, and how to know the difference.

I have spent much of my life between worlds.

I was raised Muslim, yet through the grace of Ma and the direct experience of Kundalini, I found myself drawn deeply into a spiritual tradition that almost no one around me understood.

I was mocked by family for my practice, and some relationships eventually required distance. Even within spiritual and wellness spaces, what resonated with me was often considered too traditional, devotional, specific, or “religious” — something that simply would not “sell” as well.

For a long time, these things felt like obstacles. Now I see how much they taught me.

They showed me where belonging was asking me to compromise myself. They showed me what actually matters to me. And they taught me that if I wish to live as a servant of Ma Kali, integrity cannot depend upon what is popular or commercially successful.

Dharma cannot be rearranged around our personal desires.

In many ways, Art of Shakti became the space I once needed myself.

It is a space where Kundalini can be worked with seriously and deeply. The practices are traditional, structured, and can become advanced, without imposing an identity or rigid belief system upon you.

I believe genuine transformation must unfold organically. A teacher can offer practices, structure and guidance, but the shifts must become real within you through direct experience — not forced from the outside.

Art of Shakti is for those who may also find themselves between worlds: deeply drawn to tradition, devotion and the Divine Mother while still valuing discernment and direct experience.

I don’t know how large this community will ever become. That has never been the measure.

I would rather serve a few sincere practitioners without compromising what is sacred than build something larger through dilution.

What are you unwilling to abandon in order to belong?

I never wanted to do energy healing.

For years, I was deeply skeptical. I watched it—especially around Kundalini—become a high-priced spiritual marketplace filled with fabricated techniques, extraordinary promises, and people seeking transformation through someone outside themselves.

Then subtle transmissions of Shakti began happening through me without intention.

I first noticed it while teaching, and later simply sitting beside someone in meditation. Energy would begin moving toward them without me trying to make anything happen.

Once, a colleague experienced this while sitting beside me and asked me to do it again because it felt amazing.

I told her: practice.

Whatever she experienced through being near me was something she could explore within herself through sadhana. She wasn’t interested.

That experience stayed with me. It showed me how easily spiritual experiences can become something we seek from another person instead of an invitation to go deeper within.

Over time, Ma guided me toward this work—and toward a very different intention.

Today, through Shakti & Subtle Body Alignment, I work with the subtle body to help identify energetic patterns and areas asking for attention.

But the purpose isn’t to give you an experience or become someone you depend on.

It’s to help you understand your own energy and return to your practice with greater awareness.

Because genuine spiritual work should decrease dependence, not increase it.

Kundalini sadhana requires both technique and surrender. Sometimes we work consciously with energy. Sometimes we stop interfering and surrender.

The practice develops the inner compass to know which is being asked of us.

The healing is supportive.
The sadhana is yours. 🌺

Returning Home Within Yourself
Swadhisthana • Anahata • Ajna

There are times when our attention becomes so oriented toward the world around us — people, responsibilities, expectations, questions, and uncertainty — that we lose touch with the quiet place within ourselves that feels like home.

And then, through practice, there can be moments when everything becomes still. A deep peace arises in simply witnessing consciousness as it is.

Something within us recognizes it.

Perhaps this is part of what draws us back to sadhana again and again — the remembrance of something deeply familiar. A feeling of coming home within ourselves.

This week’s Shakti Sadhana will explore three energetic centers:

🌺 Swadhisthana — One’s Own Abode
Returning toward our inner dwelling and the presence of Shakti within.

🌺 Anahata — The Spiritual Heart
Resting in the quiet heart beyond attachment and expectation.

🌺 Ajna — Inner Knowing
Cultivating clarity, discernment, and trust as the mind becomes still.

Through pranayama, kriya, mantra, meditation, and mindful movement, we will move gradually through these three centers — from the inner dwelling of Swadhisthana, through the spiritual heart of Anahata, toward the clarity and inner knowing of Ajna.

The intention is not to escape the world around us, but to reconnect with the quiet presence within — the place where we may remember what it feels like to truly come home to ourselves.

Happy Independence Day to Ma India 🇮🇳🙏

This weekend, Amar, Bhairu and I attended our local India Fest. Somewhere in the middle of it all, I became unexpectedly emotional. I felt a deep sense of home — the same feeling that sometimes arises in Sadhana with Ma, when we touch something within our essence that we didn’t realize we had been longing for.

I found myself feeling immense gratitude for what India has preserved.

The living traditions of Yoga and Sanatana Dharma have carried pathways toward Self-knowledge, liberation, and freedom from suffering across generations. These teachings have traveled far beyond India’s borders, touching the lives of people who may have no ancestral connection to the land — myself included.

Perhaps because I am Egyptian, this preservation touches me particularly deeply. So much of the spiritual knowledge of ancient Egypt has been lost through time, conquest, and cultural transformation. It reminds me that living spiritual traditions should never be taken for granted.

To receive these teachings is also to carry a responsibility — to approach them with humility, gratitude, and reverence for the cultures and lineages that have preserved them.

The deeper I walk with Ma, the more I understand this. Dharma is not simply something to study or receive. It is something we are asked to embody and carry forward with integrity.

May India’s sacred traditions remain deeply rooted for generations to come. May their inner knowledge never be lost.

Jai Ma ❤️🙏
Please do not let us go astray.
If we are worthy, keep us connected to your liberating knowledge through your grace.

With gratitude to Ma India. 🇮🇳🙏

If the spiritual traditions of India have touched your life, I’d love to hear what they have given you. 🙏

I can hear Ma laughing as I’m typing this… 😂🖤

Why? Because of how relentlessly She tests Her devotees—sometimes pushing us right to our breaking point—only to reveal how silly and trivial so many of our attachments really are.

She shows us how small our view of life can be when existence is so much vaster.

Ma deconstructs the bo***ge and conditioning of the human mind, dissolving the walls we’ve built around ourselves until our awareness becomes more all-encompassing, more spacious, more aligned with cosmic intelligence.

She laughs at us—not with cruelty, but because She sees what we cannot yet see. She mocks us, tests us, pushes us… until we finally come home to our true Self, our true nature.

And somehow, I feel so blessed for every one of these torturous tests. 😅🥰🙏🏽❤️‍🔥

How do we know when we are actually dissolving the spiritual ego—and not simply allowing it to disguise itself as spiritual evolution?

Spiritual pride is one of the most insidious obstacles on the path because it can wear the clothing of wisdom, discipline, devotion, knowledge, and even humility.

One of the clearest tests is simply to observe ourselves.

What happens when someone criticizes us? Misunderstands us? Insults us? Does something within immediately feel the need to defend itself?

Maybe there is an emotional reaction, even for a moment. Rather than judging it, can we honestly examine what within us felt threatened?

Sometimes Ma Kali gives us these uncomfortable mirrors.

In yogic understanding, much of this work is connected with the awakening of Anahata and the gradual untying of Vishnu Granthi—the energetic knot associated with attachment and emotional identification.

As this knot loosens, our sense of self-importance begins to dissolve.

The need to be admired weakens.
The need to be understood weakens.
The need to defend our spiritual identity weakens.
Our aversion to criticism begins to lose its power.

But this requires tremendous honesty and awareness. We must continually observe the inner workings of the mind—its reactions, emotions, judgments, and almost instantaneous reflexes of ego.

Otherwise, the mind can simply create a more sophisticated spiritual identity and call it awakening.

Perhaps progress is not measured by how spiritual we appear, how much we know, or what experiences we have had.

Perhaps it is measured by how little of a “someone” we still need to protect.

Ultimately, the only one we are answerable to is God.

And sometimes Ma Kali’s tests simply reveal where we are still bound.

As a teacher, I am cautious about sharing some of my personal experiences with Kundalini. They can be intense, and without context, they can create unnecessary fear around a process that already carries many fear-based narratives.

Swadhisthana has been the most volatile energy center for me to work with.

In Kundalini Yoga, Swadhisthana is associated not only with emotion, desire, and sexuality, but with samskaras—the deeply embedded karmic impressions held within the unconscious.

These impressions can become obstacles to the free movement of Kundalini. As practice begins stirring this deeper unconscious material, what arises may not always be understandable through the rational mind.

My own work here has involved enormous purges—at times frightening and painful, yet also some of the most necessary and liberating experiences of my practice.

At times, Ma Kali’s face has flashed before my inner vision as I experienced what felt like my entire astral being being consumed within Her sacred fire—burning and purifying the samskaras that keep consciousness bound.

Experiences like these are one reason I approach Kundalini with profound respect.

But respect is different from fear.

Kriya Yoga is a long-term path. We gradually work with and purify the different energy centers, preparing the pathways through which Shakti can move more freely. Profound shifts may require years of dedicated, consistent practice.

Kundalini is Shakti—the same cosmic force already giving life to you.

Approach Her with discernment. With patience. Listen to your body. Ease into practice. But don’t allow fear-based narratives to separate you from your own potential for awakening.

Our work is offered in service to Ma Kali and to the few practitioners who sincerely feel called to walk this path.
