So the high school season is a couple weeks in now and boy has it been fun.
We selected our Whitnall Area Bowling Club team of 10 from a group of only 11. Mostly returning athletes. 5 Juniors, 4 Sophomores and 1 Freshman.
Opening day was Saturday December 3rd at AMF west. We bowled against Wauwatosa and man did they have a good day. Tosa I mean. They averaged about 215 for the first 5 games carrying everything. We went down 0-9.
Our second match was Thursday December 8th at Bluemound against Brookfield East. After losing the first game we won the next 5 and ended 5-4 on the day winning our first match.
Our next match was Saturday December 10th at Bowlero against New Berlin. We won our first 4 games hitting a season high of 219 and then following up with a 116. Lost the next two games after a couple roster changes but when the 7th game and finished the day 5-4 with a second match win.
So we are 2-1 in matches so far this year and seeing the kids' progress is super rewarding!! In the last match there were 5 or 6 shots/splits that they needed to know how to line up for and after advising them, they executed perfectly and made the spares. I am trying to get the less experienced kids as many meaningful frames as possible while still winning the match and they really seem to understand that. I've even had a couple of them mid match say to keep the "starters" in.
We have 3 match days in a row without practice before Christmas break so here's to having a good practice today and remember to not only execute good shots, but to have some fun while doing it!!!
For those of you questioning coaching, do it. At least once.
